Synopsis

Two kids, Zippo and Nelly, who live a feral like lifestyle on the depleted coastline of North East England, find a beaten up dog, who they take back home and nurse back to health. Zippo has regular run ins with the local cops, teachers and town's underbelly who are forever hassling the kids and in particular their alcoholic and hopeless father, Les. The kids would like to keep the dog, whom they name "Carlos" as a pet. However, when they find out that he has escaped the despicable world of dog fighting the kids have a fight on their hands to save him being dragged back into a brutal and inhumane world once again. Not only do the cops try to take the dog away from Zippo and Nelly but the local thugs decide that Carlos could be a source of profit and status and they do a deal with Les that leads to an inevitable and dramatic confrontation.

French cook Jacques Fournier arrives in London convinced that renown and irascible British chef Victor is the father he never knew. Having found work in Victor's kitchen, Jacques sets up home and soon happens on his eccentric neighbours including the waif-like Stella who shows little interest in Jacques and even less in eating food. Attracted to Stella, Jacques plans to tempt her with his fine cuisine but is caught red handed stealing the necessary costly ingredients from the restaurant. When confronted by a furious Victor, Jacques is forced to confess his true motive for coming to London. But Victor laughs off the assertion that he might be Jacques’ father and shows him the door. His world shattered, Jacques returns home only to discover Stella unconscious following a binge on junk food, booze and pills. Recognising a fellow lost soul, Jacques refuses to leave Stella’s side until she consumes something. He sets them both a challenge: for him to prepare her a feast so delicate and alluring that she cannot resist. But in the mental struggle that follows, Stella’s eating disorder may prove just too much for love to overcome and for Jacques and Stella’s dysfunctional romance to survive.
