Sanjay's an artist. He's been with his girlfriend Jill for five years. When they met it was magic. Life was gonna be a party. Now the big 3-0's looming and their relationship is sliding downhill fast. Jill wants marriage and kids. No way. Sanjay's still trying to find that elusive break. Then there's his family. He's Indian and she's black. Bad news.


Jill gives him an ultimatum: "Marry me or I'm gone." He calls her bluff and she sets off to LA for a week of sun, sea and sand. Does he give a damn? Forget it! She needs him more than . . .


Sanjay calls up an ex-girlfriend and they 'do the business'. Next day he scores again! Is God trying to tell him something? His mates love it: "Two in two days!" Now, if he can only score with five more women and make it seven in seven days he'd be a definite Guru. In fact he'd be the Guru - "the one and only." For five years Sanjay's been faithful to Jill but . . . hang on - she dumped him.


The would-be Guru launches himself into the land of muff . . . "dive, dive, dive". The days go by in a haze of sex and drugs and . . . bhangra! As the scores are notched up the old longing for Jill returns. Sanjay tries to put on the brakes but there's major money on his "seven in seven". If he backs out now, the local 'godfather' - Ram - will do him some serious damage. Ouch!


Sanjay's make or break exhibition looms. Jill's return from LA is imminent. What's the Guru gonna do?

Two little girls, Hilary and Jackie du Pré, are inseparable. When Hilary announces her marriage to Kiffer, a talented young conductor, Jackie responds by announcing her own engagement to the renowned pianist and conductor, Daniel Barenboim.


The two sisters lose touch with one another, until one day Jackie arrives unannounced at the remote farmhouse where Hilary and Kiffer live with their children. Desperate for love and reassurance, Jackie tells Hilary that she wants Kiffer. Hilary has never been able to say no to her sister and Jackie becomes part of the family, until one day Kiffer decides it has to stop. Jackie walks away from her sister's house and we see how life looked from her point of view.


Then Jackie meets Daniel Barenboim at a party. She takes her hated instrument and speaks to him through it. But as the world celebrates their fairy-tale love story, something is happening to Jackie. Constantly tired, she fears she's losing her mind. One night, on tour, she can't feel her fingers. She collapses.


Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Jackie is relieved to know she is not going mad. The celebrated cellist becomes a celebrity invalid, rejecting her sister who she believed had let her down at her moment of greatest need. Only as the end nears can the two women reach across the divide to find a moment of peace and happiness together.

There is no escape for Lucky when the gangster's henchmen catch up with him. Unless he makes amends by doing a hit, he is dead. As there is no alternative Lucky reluctantly agrees. He follows instructions and goes to a club, where he is rescued from a run in with two hoodlums by Harvey "The Hitman" Roach. Harvey instructs Lucky in the art of being a hitman and Lucky carries out the hit, rescuing a girl who gets caught up in the crossfire.

Once again the BMF's mob catch up with Lucky. They fight and Lucky leaves them for dead. Lucky meets up with Harvey again, who convinces him to accompany him on some "business". Lucky watches as Harvey kills a rival and gets wounded in the process and also observes Harvey deal with an unfaithful girlfriend and her lover.

Synopsis

Hold Back the Night tells the story of two youngsters, Charleen and Declan. On the run from the past, their families and the police, they are making their way to the Scottish Highlands. As they come to terms with each other and their new found friends including Killer, an unloveable pit-bull terrier, and Vera, whose dying wish is to see the sun rise on the Ring of Brodgar in Orkney, the calm, barren, beautiful landscape begins to exert its healing influence and Charleen and Declan learn to trust the world again. Hold Back the Night is the story of how they learn to become friends and then lovers, while laying the ghosts of the past and reclaiming their lives.
