Light, without which life itself is impossible, is the working medium and obsession of director Thomas Riedelsheimer. Light, seen only in interaction with matter, allows us to explore the origin of the universe. In Tracing Light, science and art interact to illuminate the birth of stars and secrets of the molecular world. Einstein’s work on light changed our understanding of the world forever and revealed it as more complex and magical than was thought. Now, at a radical moment in physics, we bring together leading scientists, and artists who sculpt with light, across Scotland and Germany – from the Max Planck Institute at Erlangen, to Glasgow University’s Extreme Light Group and western reaches of Scotland’s Outer Hebrides, in a quest to understand and embody the ineffable. New questions are given voice, visually and sensually, in the language of matter; in the language of film – light. Synopsis

Kenny and Kerry marry with secrets that almost blow their marriage apart. After their new baby is born, Kenny's PTSD is triggered by his crying. Kenny no longer knows what is real, calls it ‘the screams’. It seems the marriage is over. But Kerry decides to go back to school, to study how the brain works, and discovers that suffering isn’t a given - you can do something about it. We follow their recovery over ten years, through psychiatric medication, talking therapy, horses, race-cars and ice swimming as they emerge with new insights and resilience for their life ahead. The story of Scottish pop music from the 1960s onwards told by the visionary women who got on stage and made music together. We discover the little-known role that women played in Scotland's emerging music scenes through interviewing those who tried to break the glass ceiling, from the vocal harmony groups of the sixties to DIY indie-fanzine-inspired groups of the 90s, as well as activists, artists, and experts. Weaving together personal anecdotes with a scrapbook audio-visual aesthetic, as the film takes us through each decade, a colourful mixtape is formed spanning multiple musical genres. Narrated by award-winning musician Carla J. Easton, a former member of the girl band Teen Canteen, the film takes a critical look at the barriers women have faced making music in the past, and still face today. It asks how we can inspire young women to make music, if those who do so are continuously erased from our cultural history.
