Kojo is a taxi driver living and working in Ghana. Sleeping on his break he is awoken by a beautiful young travelling actress called Cynthia. She’s in Ghana for the day and hires Kojo to show her some tourist attractions. The day ends with a sexual encounter and a reluctant promise from Cynthia to invite Kojo to England. Six months later Kojo arrives on Cynthia’s doorstep in London. Filled with ambitions of making money and fulfilling his dreams of succeeding as a poet, he soon realises that the grass isn’t greener on the other side and people are not what they seem.

The city of London has a beauty about it, but can sometimes be lonely for its inhabitants. Starting at dusk and ending at dawn the next morning, this film explores this idea of loneliness through four different scenarios showing the full gamut of life and death in the city, and exemplifies how indifference can exacerbate this plague of modern times. It is made using traditional forms of animation, as well as new forms such as computer animation, all skilfully composited together to convey feeling and emotion and life in an intuitive, expressive way.

But Sophie, encouraged by her closest friend Becky, has never been one to give up and, despite being advised by parents and school teachers to be realistic and pursue something less academic, she puts herself through college and university, in the process achieving a first-class degree in biomedical science and a PhD conducting research into post-trauma regeneration of the spinal column, which ultimately leads to her achieving worldwide recognition for her work and helping to develop a cure for paralysis. A Mind of Her Own won a Crystal Heart Award from the Heartland Film Festival in 2005.
