Synopsis

To End All Wars is the true story of Ernest Gordon, a young Scottish student teacher who signs up with The Argyll and Sutherland Highland regiment at the outbreak of the Second World War. In 1942, during the fall of Singapore, the regiment is captured by the Japanese and taken to a prisoner of war camp in Thailand.

Despite the threat of execution, the regiment's proud Colonel James MacLean and his loyal Major Ian Campbell are committed to escape and defiant in the face of their implacable captors. Established prisoners, including Dusty Miller advise compliance in line with the Japanese code of Bashido, which demands dedication to the Emperor. Also held in the camp is American Lieutenant Tom Reardon, an opportunist who believes self-interest is the only reliable method of survival.

MacLean and Campbell are ordered to meet with Lieutenant Colonel Nagatomo and Captain Noguchi and learn that they have 18 months to build 420 kilometres of railroad into the jungle. When MacLean protests and robustly refuses to sign documents pledging they will not escape, he is executed.

Work on the 'railroad of death' begins in appalling conditions. Famine, fear and disease sweep through the men as they buckle under the strain.

Synopsis

Tony, who spends his days working in a London auction house surrounded by valuable works of art, enlists the help of underworld figure Brendan and his henchmen Nick and Philip, to steal a painting by Goya. But things don't quite go according to plan - Tony is left concussed and Brendan and his associates are left with a worthless poster reproduction. Tony claims he has amnesia, and swears that he's hidden the original Goya somewhere for safekeeping, but can't remember where.

After trying to beat the information out of Tony, to no avail, it strikes Brendan that hypnotherapy might be the answer, and takes Tony to Harley Street hypnotherapist, Sarah Lamb, randomly picked out of the Yellow Pages.

Sarah finds out exactly what's going on, and rather than shop Tony and the gang to the police, she decides that she wants to be in on the scam. Sarah's skills as a hypnotherapist enable her to manipulate minds and memories to her own advantage.

The tension - sexual and otherwise - mounts as the boundaries between the real and the imagined, the obvious and the hidden, the genuine and the fake become increasingly blurred as the search through Tony's subconscious continues, and the action builds to a nail-biting climax.

The main characters, Jim and Duncan, are both unemployed, but always seem to have money. Newly returned from a Spanish holiday, Jim is sporting a fresh deep cut to his head, through misadventure during his holiday. They befriended a Spanish couple when returning back to Scotland, where they now live. The couple invite Jim and Duncan back to their house for a small party. During the party the Spanish man starts to film with his video camera. As the night progresses the Spanish couple retire to their bed, drunk and tired. This is when you start to see Jim and Duncan for who they really are, and the reason why they're at the party. They gather up their hosts' belongings, including the video camera, and leave with them.

From this point onwards we explore the sometimes funny, but twisted world in which they live. They seek disturbing delights and highs in the form of mugging, theft and housebreaking, recording everything they do, on the stolen camera. Jim is still very annoyed about the cut on his head, after his affections for a married woman while on holiday were not received well by her husband. Jim only has revenge in mind.

Synopsis

Using techniques he has learnt on his life-changing course, he begins to seek out the identity of his mysterious assassin. Although Mikey may be able to deal with his killer in the club that night he may not be able to eventually deal with himself.
