Lying between Lambeth Palace and the site of Bedlam is Hercules Road. From 1790 to 1797 William Blake lived here writing a large proportion of his major work. A multi-layered exploration of ideas from Blake's poetry.

Two little girls, Hilary and Jackie du Pré, are inseparable. At first Hilary, the elder sister, is the star musician but when Jackie reaches the tender age of nine, her extraordinary gift as a cellist takes the world by storm. As they grow up, they grow apart. When Hilary announces her marriage to Kiffer, a talented young conductor, Jackie responds by announcing her own engagement to the renowned pianist and conductor, Daniel Barenboim.


The two sisters lose touch with one another, until one day Jackie arrives unannounced at the remote farmhouse where Hilary and Kiffer live with their children. Desperate for love and reassurance, Jackie tells Hilary that she wants Kiffer. Hilary has never been able to say no to her sister and Jackie becomes part of the family, until one day Kiffer decides it has to stop. Jackie walks away from her sister's house and we see how life looked from her point of view.


Then Jackie meets Daniel Barenboim at a party. She takes her hated instrument and speaks to him through it. But as the world celebrates their fairy-tale love story, something is happening to Jackie. Constantly tired, she fears she's losing her mind. One night, on tour, she can't feel her fingers. She collapses.


Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Jackie is relieved to know she is not going mad. The celebrated cellist becomes a celebrity invalid, rejecting her sister who she believed had let her down at her moment of greatest need. Only as the end nears can the two women reach across the divide to find a moment of peace and happiness together.

Lucky Delon is a prize-fighter who is approached by a gangster, BMF, to throw his next fight. Refusing to be intimidated, Lucky knocks his opponent out and skips town.

There is no escape for Lucky when the gangster's henchmen catch up with him. Unless he makes amends by doing a hit, he is dead. As there is no alternative Lucky reluctantly agrees. He follows instructions and goes to a club, where he is rescued from a run in with two hoodlums by Harvey "The Hitman" Roach. Harvey instructs Lucky in the art of being a hitman and Lucky carries out the hit, rescuing a girl who gets caught up in the crossfire.

Once again the BMF's mob catch up with Lucky. They fight and Lucky leaves them for dead. Lucky meets up with Harvey again, who convinces him to accompany him on some "business". Lucky watches as Harvey kills a rival and gets wounded in the process and also observes Harvey deal with an unfaithful girlfriend and her lover.

Just as Lucky is getting used to having a hitman for a mentor, the BMF springs a new trap, turning the tables on Lucky in a violent and bloody showdown.

Synopsis

Hold Back the Night tells the story of two youngsters, Charleen and Declan. On the run from the past, their families and the police, they are making their way to the Scottish Highlands. Both are damaged, abused, complex and difficult. As they come to terms with each other and their new found friends including Killer, an unloveable pit-bull terrier, and Vera, whose dying wish is to see the sun rise on the Ring of Brodgar in Orkney, the calm, barren, beautiful landscape begins to exert its healing influence and Charleen and Declan learn to trust the world again. Hold Back the Night is the story of how they learn to become friends and then lovers, while laying the ghosts of the past and reclaiming their lives.

Synopsis

London in the 1990's. A small time criminal is hired to commit a contract killing. Michael Banbury, a senior barrister, is murdered while visiting a brothel in a London suburb. Initial suspicions fall on Banbury's ex-wife, Susan Flint. Phil Henderson, a retired Detective Superintendent and old friend of Banbury's, becomes involved in the investigation to help Flint establish her innocence.


It soon emerges that the intended victim was not Banbury but Graham Rigg, the owner of the brothel and the well known head of a South London gang. While both Rigg and the police attempt to find who put out the contract, Henderson conducts his own enquiries with support from former colleague Walker.


As Henderson's relationship with Flint develops and his relationship with the official investigation becomes increasingly strained, he finds himself involved in an intricate web of gang war and police corruption. Increasingly it seems that criminals and lawmen alike are mere pawns in a deadly game devised by whoever's behind the original contract killing. But who's set to benefit from the bloody outcome?

Mark, a botanist, is bitten by a sick woman while on a field trip. He is infected with a virus that makes him crave fresh human meat. On returning to London, he takes a new flat and lives a life of isolation where he can satisfy his need for flesh.





Repulsed by his own violent behaviour, he takes a series of victims, eats them, and disposes of their remains as best he can. As his illness progresses he becomes weaker and more disorientated.





His girlfriend Sarah is shattered by his vanishing, but slowly rebuilds her life with the support of friends.





Mark is obsessed with Sarah and determined to see her again. He anaesthetises and kidnaps her, taking her back to his new flat. He starts to hallucinate and aware of his own volatile condition, returns her safely to live her new life.





He is getting weaker, and after dragging the body of one of his victims, his leg breaks. Unable to seek medical help he screws a metal plate onto the side of his broken leg.





The boundaries between reality and his increasingly disturbing hallucinations become more blurred. The flesh on his face is starting to ulcerate. He can no longer leave the flat.





While masturbating, his decaying penis falls off in his hand. All that remains is to attempt as dignified a death as possible.
