Synopsis

A crew of Rastafarians evacuated to London after a volcanic eruption in Montserrat, adjust to life in inner city London.   The Rastamen reinvent themselves as 'rude-boy' rappers and small time hustlers. They pitch between enjoying the thrills of the city and committing to Rastafari ideals.

Synopsis

Sixteen year old Lem lives on Planet 51, a white picket-fenced world reminiscent of a cheerfully innocent 1950's America. He is happy in his safe, predictable world and spends his time daydreaming about running the local planetarium and dating the girl next door, Neera. The only thing that rocks the idyllic life of the planet's green-skinned inhabitants is their fear of 'alien' invasion. No-one is more fearful of this than Lem's best friend Skiff, who is certain that the government is hiding the truth that aliens really do exist! One day, out of the blue, and millions of miles from his own planet, astronaut Captain Charles 'Chuck' Baker crash lands in Neera's backyard. Unaware of his surroundings, he disembarks the ship revelling in his Big Moment. He plants his flag triumphantly and turns - only to find a Planet 51 inhabitant staring back at him bemused!   From here we join Chuck, Lem and the gang in a spectacular comic adventure which is sure to delight the whole family - whatever planet you are from!

Synopsis

The Arbor is the powerful true story of Bradford playwright Andrea Dunbar and her troubled relationship with her daughter Lorraine. Andrea wrote honestly and unflinchingly about her upbringing on the notorious Buttershaw Estate. When she died, tragically at the age of 29 in 1990, Lorraine was just ten years old. The Arbor catches up with Lorraine in the present day, also at 29; ostracised from Buttershaw and now in prison, serving a sentence for manslaughter for the death of her son. Whilst in prison and undergoing rehab, Lorraine is re-introduced to her mother's plays and private letters and as she reflects on the parallels in their lives, she begins to come to terms with her role in the death of her son. Clio Barnard, began recording audio interviews with Lorraine Dunbar, other members of the Dunbar family and residents from the Buttershaw Estate over a period of two years. The material was edited to form an audio 'screenplay' which forms the basis for the film as actors lip-synch to the voices of the interviewees. This footage is intercut with archive footage and extracts from a re-staging of Andrea's first play.

Synopsis

The Lovers and Fighters Convention tells the story of one night at London's legendary Transfabulous Arts Festival. In the wake of the Queen signing into law The Gender Recognition Act in the mid-noughties, a community developed of people who wanted to recognise a new culture in the UK, a culture of 'transness' - artistic work that developed around gender. The Transfabulous Arts Festival became a lightning rod for these ideas. This observational documentary shows just one night at this festival in 2008.

It is 1036 and England is without a Monarch and in turmoil. King Canute had died the previous year and a new king has not yet been chosen. Earl Godwin, Canute's right-hand man and the most influential Earl in England is summoned by Canute's Second wife Queen Emma who wants the Witan (council of elders) to choose her son Hardicanute over Canute's other son Harold Harefoot by his other wife Aelfgigu. Although Earl Godwin cannot sway the council and is unable to help Queen Emma's request, he remains the most powerful Earl in England and effectively rules England for the next two decades. His son Harold Godwinson will become the eventual King of England destined to rule England but a few months. From 1036 to 1066 the Godwin family amassed wealth, power and influence. Their enemies were ruthlessly dealt with. Sibling rivalry between Harold and his brothers nearly lead to disaster for the Godwin family. Harold once king is forced to kill his treacherous brother Tostig at the battle of Stamford Bridge just two weeks before the Battle of Hastings. During this time across the English Channel Duke William (Great nephew to Canute's Queen Emma) is fighting to take control of Normandy. Constantly fending off attacks on his land, he covets the crown of England as King Edward the Confessor has no offspring. A story full of intrigue, treachery, Papal conspiracy, murder, deceit and an abundance of rape and pillaging. It is the most important era in English history. 1066 is the last time England would be conquered by foreign invaders. There is more to the story than told in school history books.

Johnny has lost £25,000. It all happened so fast: he just put it down for a second and then it was gone. It wasn’t his to lose. It was such a simple job: deliver a package for his criminal boss Staunton - a small job, but a very important one. Johnny turns to his brother Del for salvation who knows one thing for certain: they need to find 25Gs, and before Staunton finds him. Whilst Del tries to find the money from somewhere, Johnny goes into hiding and meets the enigmatic Hayley, who seems to have the answers to everything, but all is not so straightforward is this existentialist crime-caper: chance meetings and peculiar turns of events escalate things to nightmarish proportions.

'Little Jack' (Freddie Highmore) is an adorable young fox who is busy enjoying a blissful life, chasing frogs, butterflies and playing in the forest with his loving family. Until one night when his perfect world is turned upside down when his father, 'Jack' is captured and forced to join the circus. 'Anna Conda' (Miranda Richardson) is the cunning circus-owner whose desire for bigger and better performances leads her to kidnapping the forest animals. With the help of her magician husband, 'The Ringmaster' (Bill Nighy), the animals are hypnotized into performing in her shows. On his rescue mission Little Jack gets help from some unlikely heroes, including a nature loving boy in a wheelchair called Alex and Arabella, a young acrobat. Little Jack's task of rescuing his beloved father leads him to make a new friends, including a gorgeous circus fox named Darcey (Sienna Miller). Together they set out to free all the animals so they can return home to the beautiful forest- just as nature intended.

Synopsis

After Sam Peel is released from jail for killing Trife, he finds difficulty adjusting to life on the outside. Sam is forced to confront the people he hurt, trying to find out which one is seeking revenge on him. While trying to cope with the effect his actions had on the people he knew, he finds himself being hunted by a group of young thugs, who seem to be following the same path as Sam had in the past - but who are they and why are they hunting him? Sam's first day of freedom will be one he never forgets, and as important in his life as the one that lost him his freedom in the first place. Sam is about to go from Kidulthood to Adulthood, if he survives.
