Synopsis

In 1950s South Africa, apartheid is just beginning. Free-spirited Amina has broken all the rules of her own conventional Indian community, and the new apartheid-led government, by running a café with Jacob her 'coloured' business partner. When she meets Miriam, a young traditional wife and mother, their unexpected attraction pushes Miriam to question the rules that bind her. When Amina helps Miriam’s sister-in-law to hide from the police, a chain of events is set in motion that changes both women forever. In a system that divides white from black and women from men, what chance is there for an unexpected love to survive?

In the aftermath of Hurricane Fabian, the Bermuda Government commissioned a memorial to Bermudians “Lost at Sea”. This competition for the island's first public artwork was won by UK-based Bermudian-born sculptor Bill Ming. Andy Mckay’s film is a poetic portrait of the sculptor's early years in a segregated society, as a seaman, the cultural adjustment of coming to England in 1970 and surviving as an artist. The film weaves together his work, emotional and humorous life stories, the making of the 12 ton bronze construction and the defining moments of its meaning to Bermudian people. The film received a standing ovation at the 10th Bermuda International Film Festival. It was financed by The Government of Bermuda, Arts Council England, Nottinghamshire County Council, The University of Lincoln, INTA Films.

Synopsis

The film set in London is about the relationship between Kami, a 40 year old businessman whose father has just passed away, and Agha, the Mullah or Priest who conducts the burial ceremony. The story shows how Agha, an opium addict with a penchant for Persian Sufi poetry, takes Kami, who is distraught by the death of his father, under his wings. Synopsis

Almost Adult is the story of two teenage girls who come from different countries and speak different languages but still become each other's family. The two girls meet at a bus station in Birmingham after arriving in the UK as unaccompanied minors in search of asylum. Mamie, the elder of the two, takes Shiku under her wing.
