The legacy of Matsuo Basho (1644 – 1694), famous Japanese poet, is his elevation of haiku to the realm of high poetry. This film reveals a glimpse into an account of one of Basho’s journeys in the company of confidante and disciple, Chiri.

And his job is certainly not helping. Basketcase tells the story of Clarence's descent into madness - or not - and his desperate quest to blame anyone but himself. It's a sardonic fairytale; a dismal parable. No wonder they're laughing.

There is an overweight man with deep-seated psychological issues and two chicken like creatures. They are having a surreal dinner party contained within a dingy room with a high ceiling. The wallpaper is dirty and there happens to be some kind of insect infestation. The food they eat is also dirty. They reside on the edge of a city and a large factory dominates the landscape. The weather isn't too good either.

Sheamy, an Irish ex-priest recently released from prison, arrives in London searching for his former mentor in faith, Father Brendan. Synopsis

Richard, bored of his mundane existence as a cycle courier, attempts to make his film A Distance Too Far in a bid to escape to a better life. Driven by the belief that it will propel him, his friends and his girlfriend to fame and fortune, and the fear of ending up like his family, the completion of his 'masterpiece' becomes the sole focus of Richard's life. So with a budget creeping into positive numbers, Richard employs a rabble of egomaniacs and incompetents. These include his loyal friend Ray, chicken slaughterer (and now producer). Richard's likeable, mellow and quirky personality transforms into that of an angry, unappreciative tyrant who becomes hell bent on success. His relationship with girlfriend Jemma deteriorates, as he is unable to think past his ruthless ambitions. Eventually, his constant barking takes it's toll on the cast and crew, culminating in Richard throwing a tantrum and banishing them all from the set. Even Ray, who has been funding the production with extra hours at the meat factory, is ejected. Met with indifference after crawling back to his former crew, Richard realizes his dream is over for now and that his life, without the millions and the showbiz golf-buddies, isn't so bad the way it is.

Synopsis

The 5000-seater West Lake Restaurant in the Chinese city of Changsha is the setting for this feature-doc. Old traditions and new money come together in a vibrant and colourful exploration of modern China. Central to the story is the restaurant's owner, the unstoppable Mrs Qin, a Communist Party member with a love of singing. Between mouth-watering and 'exotic' Chinese food and the rousing Communist songs sung by the staff, the film examines how China has been transformed over the last few decades. It also poses the question: in this new affluent and ambitious China, who is thriving and who is left behind? Many of life's most important events take place on the West Lake's stage and it is through these celebrations - a wedding between a wealthy property developer and his beautiful bride, a baby banquet and a grandmother's birthday party - that the film explores the struggles and hopes of Chinese people today.
