Richard Jobson’s new film surrounds 15 testimonies from British
servicemen and women who were involved in the Iraq conflict in Basra. They have a ghostly presence as they talk about their experiences in a near documentary style, after each testimony the camera glides into the lives that might have been and the people they left behind.

Jobson says ‘Like many people I was angered by the Iraq war and like most people did nothing about it. This is my response to that apathy. In the film although it appears that the speakers are the ghostly presence, it is in fact we the audience who are the Somnambulists, it is we who were sleepwalking in the build-up to the war and its tragic aftermath.’

The story was heavily influenced by the work of photographer Joanna Kane whose exhibition 'The Somnambulists' at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery left Jobson deeply impressed by its haunting vision of the space between life and death.

Two private bankers, Alistair and Jamie, who have the world at their feet get their kicks from playing a 12 hour game of hunt, hide and seek with people from the margins of society.
Their next target is Sean Kelly a parentless teenager who lives with his sister on a housing estate on the outskirts of Edinburgh. She's in debt, he's going nowhere fast. Sean agrees to play for cash.
He soon realises he's walked into twelve hours of hell where survival is the name of the game.

A new type of gang has taken over the troubled violent inner cities of the U.K. Tired of hopeless government initiatives and bad policing, younger more focused activists respond by creating their own community infrastructure, gaining a formidable reputation protecting their neighbourhoods from social and moral collapse.

When a meeting is called in Manchester attended by all of the gang members, the idea of uniting all of the gangs as one single all-powerful confederation is presented.

Through the eyes of The Purifiers, a collection of smart, sassy, highly skilled exponents of Tae Kwon Do, we see how this proposal goes against the grain of everything they stand for. The rest of the gangs know, however, that to make the new way a real possibility, they must get rid of The Purifiers.

The story becomes a gauntlet of ambushes and spectacular set pieces where gang leader John has to call on all of his experience to get his young troops safely back home.

An explosive, volatile, unknown terrain faces The Purifiers as their journey becomes an emotional and physical roller coaster with potentially fatal consequences.
