Project Detail

Dear Miss Barrett (aka Flush)

Synopsis

Based on Virginia Woolf's 'Flush', tracing the life of Flush, a Cocker Spaniel from his carefree existence in the country, to his adoption by the poet Elizabeth Barrett, his travails in London, his owner's elopement and to his final days in a bucolic Italy.
Elizabeth Barrett, who is mourning the death of her brother, is given a puppy called Flush, who restores her spirits and helps her resume her poetry. She is trapped in her “ivory tower” by a possessive, domineering father. Another young poet, Robert Browning, has fallen in love with Elizabeth’s poetry and is always begging to meet her in person. When a trembling Elizabeth finally agrees, the sparks of passion ignite a secret romance, much to the annoyance of her beloved companion- Flush. Knowing her father will never let her go, Elizabeth and Robert elope and escape to beautiful sunny Italy. Meanwhile, a jealous Flush plots furiously against the man who has stolen Elizabeth’s heart.
