Woman leans against an opaque panelled door. Split Ends

Director: Grace Cassidy, Laura Hafes

Year: 2025

Inside this film’s carefully constructed dollhouse aesthetic lies a sinister moral, directly inspired by Victorian fables designed to scare children into obedience. A wistful, near-elegiac poem of a script, by writer/director duo Laura Hafes and Grace Cassidy, gives lyrical form to a narrated daydream that turns into nightmarish reality. Movement Director Araminta Wraith’s adept puppetry breathes life into a Medusa-like wig that overpowers its master. Each perfectly lit frame of Scarlett Gardner’s cinematography plays to the text’s theatrical nature, from a tracking shot through a hair-curtain opener to a final battle rendered in shadow and silhouette behind frosted glass. Official Selection, Uppsala Short Film Festival 2026

Woman in blue headscarf looks to the side with one hand holding her scarf away from her face Simran Kaur 1970

Director: Keshavi Jaharia

Year: 2026

In 1970s London, Simran arrives at Heathrow Airport from Punjab to be married in two weeks. Dressed for the journey, she moves through the warmth and order of the terminal until she is quietly diverted into a secondary corridor. In a calm examination room, procedures are explained to her in a familiar language, framed as routine and voluntary. What follows is a polite, administrative process that determines her right to enter the country. When Simran is allowed to leave, the airport resumes its rhythm. Outside, her future husband waits. Life continues.
