Project Detail

For the Time Being

Synopsis

“for the time being” is a collage of moving images made thirty years apart and re-worked into seventeen sections of tentative autobiography. The soundtrack mixes music and environmental sound with conversation, not all of it intelligible. In the scraps that are, the film-maker and his partner talk together about how we document and re-interpret our lives.

Detail of a painting 1985__Cuba

Director: Stuart Pound

Year: 2026

1985 was a difficult year for me. My mother had died, an attempted love affair went badly wrong, I hadn't made a film for five years. I bought a video camera and went to Cuba for three weeks. Music and memory play important parts. I first heard this particular music in Louis Malle's LES AMANTS (1958) when I was a teenager.

Confidences Confidences

Director: Stuart Pound

Year: 2025

A private conversation is transformed into a soundscape where only the occasional word emerges with any clarity. Moiré patterns move like human shapes, meet then separate into the darkness.

Specto Specto

Director: Stuart Pound

Year: 2025

Ampersand, 1978, re-purposes clips from a 1974 film I never completed. In Specto they are re-purposed again. The hot tungsten filament of a Specto film projector is a recurring image, along with re-worked clips of a troupe of actors performing Artaud’s Jet of Blood at locations in the city of Lincoln. You’ll see the cathedral and a dilapidated mill with UNSAFE 74 painted on its wall.
