Gaudi Afternoon

Synopsis

Living in Barcelona, American translator Cassandra Reilly (Judy Davis) quickly discovers that appearances are very deceptive in the comedic mystery Gaudi Afternoon.

Femme fatale Frankie Stevens (Marcia Gay Harden) is another American in Barcelona. She is convinced her husband has mysteriously disappeared in the Spanish city and uses Cassandra's amateur sleuthing skills to help her find him. At first Cassandra turns the offer down but the chance to earn some easy money is too tempting.

As Cassandra attempts to help unravel Frankie's secret past, she finds herself embroiled in a web of mistaken identities, double-crossing families and a kidnapping plot.

Add to this the appearance of the sensual April (Juliette Lewis) and the elusive Ben (Lili Taylor), and Cassandra winds up in a riddle even more complex than Gaudi's haunting architecture.

Alone in a foreign city, Cassandra must solve a family's most hidden secret before she can confront her own past.

Director: Leo Metcalf

Year: 2024

Olly sifts through his memories searching to understand why he is the way he is. The narrative swings between two contrasting worlds: his memories of his first years, captured by his childhood drawings, and surreal underwater live-action scenes representing his dreams. We witness fragmented memories of a torn family - an abusive father, a mother whose memory seems faded, and a sister, Sally, encouraging her little brother to escape through imagination and dreams. As memory and fantasy blur, The Time Before becomes a meditation on the stories we tell ourselves to survive, and what is lost in the telling. Official Selection Aesthetica Film Festival 2024
