Synopsis

Two war correspondence are escorted to a recently bombed town. The apparent perpetrators are about to be executed in front of a baying mob of survivors. One journalist doubts the guilt of the adolescent prisoners; the other believes they are not there to take sides but to take pictures.

Frank Perry is an institutionalised convict 12 years into a life sentence without parole. When his estranged daughter falls ill, he is determined he make peace with her before it's too late. He develops an ingenious escape plan, and recruits a dysfunctional band of escapists - misfits with a mutual dislike for one other but united by their desire to escape their hell hole of an existence. Much of the action takes place within the tunnels, sewers and underground rivers of subterranean London.

Christmas Eve 2001: Seamus - a lonely poster-paster who works the night shift at Aldwych tube station - is taken on a nocturnal journey by the spirit of a deceased train driver. Having resigned himself to a life of drudgery and routine, the poster-paster's drab existence is questioned by the spirits of those who have died in the station throughout its 100 year history. Subterrain is a modern day fable that uses as its inspiration the story of Dickens' A Christmas Carol in the setting of Dante's Divine Comedy, with a conclusion akin to It's A Wonderful Life.
