Indignitas

A middle-aged man in a grey suit dances awkwardly before flowers, green light reflecting off his blue suede shoes in a cold, clinical room.
A young Black woman in a white doctor’s coat extends a remote in a sterile, white-lit room glowing with cold, dystopian light.
A weary white man in his sixties stares ahead, blue eyes rimmed red, as mint-green light casts a cold, dystopian glow around him.
In a grey, sterile waiting room, eight weary people sit silently as a Black woman in a white coat stands before them amid a cold, dystopian glow.

Synopsis

With another financial collapse in full swing and the state unable to fund pensions or elderly care, the government launches the Voluntary Euthanasia Scheme. Parents over a certain age can end their lives in exchange for free healthcare, education, and housing for their children. Fair exchange?
Promoted through glossy ads and high-street clinics as convenient as coffee shops, the scheme even offers a “two-for-one” deal for couples.
Philip Foster, recently redundant and father to three, is cornered by debt. Desperate to give his family a future, he secretly books into the sterile Freedom Clinic, where plastic flowers and cold efficiency set the tone. Dr. Mort, calm and courteous, helps him plan his death with unnerving precision—selecting funeral details, background music, and a simulated beach scene for his final moments.
As Philip drinks the fatal potion, he faces the bitter irony of a world that commodifies compassion. Only after his body slumps do we discover Dr. Mort’s true nature - she’s an AI.

Director: Deepa Mann-Kler

Year: 2026

A 20-minute single-player immersive VR experience that places users inside the body of Zoraan, a British-born Sikh woman navigating menopause amidst climate collapse and the ruins of colonial medicine. You breathe with her. You scream with her. You dance your way out of sedation. Blending real-time visuals, bio-haptic feedback and diasporic sound, this work reframes menopause not as decline but as volatile power; closing ‘The Baby Factory’ to ignite a cultural revolution. Using gesture, voice and biometric feedback, audiences become co-conspirators in a volatile act of embodied rebellion. This is not a metaphor. This is an insurgency.
