Treading Water Treading Water

Director: Ash Morris

Year: 2011

Jack, or J as he’s known to his peers, a seventeen year old teenager on electronic tag for joyriding, wakes up in a derelict pub in the heart of the Bentliee Estate. Last night he missed his curfew but that’s the least of his troubles. Local villain Crazy Barry is after his blood, his daughter Cheryl claiming J got her pregnant, plus the crew he once considered friends have turned on him under Barry’s orders. Peering out of shafts between the boards on the pub windows he has to figure out how he is going to navigate safely through the next few hours, trying to reach his Mum and Sister for the anniversary of his father's death. His journey is brought to life by intimate scenes with the characters he comes across, from his old leftie uncle, a local junkie, femme fatale on the game to his drunken older sister. There’s only so long J can survive out of the clutches of the Law. Treading Water tells the story of these apprehensive few hours, encapsulating a realistic portrayal of underclass living within an entertaining thriller of day-to-day survival.

The lack of control in her own life leads to a breakdown for Charity and she must learn to rid herself of her evil management and rip out the belly button piercing they're using to control her...
