Synopsis

Following a rising number of winter accidents in the Scottish mountains, the British Mountaineering Society sponsored this film in order to make climbers, trekkers and mountain walkers more aware of the dangers. Amid stunning scenery we look at the skills needed for safe and satisfying outdoor activities in a northern British winter.

Sandy Kenyon (played by Steve Varden in his first feature role) is an aircraft enthusiast who dreams that one day he will be able to fly. But he has one problem, following his mother's dramatic death in a flying accident, he suffers from cerebral palsy, leaving him with serious mobility problems. Most people Sandy meets find it hard to believe he will ever achieve his dream. Sandy and his grandfather Victor (Sir Derek Jacobi) spend their spare time searching for aircraft wrecks. When Sandy learns that a mystery wreck is still missing in the Lake District, he decides that he will leave the safety of his care home and set out alone to try to find it. Sandy's quest for independence is not a smooth ride. He faces suspicion and hostility as he begins his new life. But as his true potential is revealed, magical things happen. Lucy (Boo Pearce) breaks down her prejudices to become his lover, and a strange group of travellers help him in his quest. Ultimately, Sandy achieves his dream, though not in the way he had planned!

Loyal butler Jonathan is sent to rescue the failing Blueberry Inn, unaware his blinkered Lord plots to leave it to him and three chaotic staff as a social experiment. When the Lord dies suddenly, Jonathan discovers he's a co-owner of the Inn and has just one month to save it. Battling sabotage from furious heirs, the mismatched team (and a pig!) rally their communities, securing the Inn's future against all odds.

In this participatory documentary, filmmaker Rabie Mustapha works with a group of children living in Northern Ireland to tell stories about their family life and cultural backgrounds. Despite the children’s globalised nature, they manage to bring in an insight to specific cultural journeys from Al-Nuba, Halab and the Northern Irish countryside. We see Maya, an inquisitive 9 year old girl whose hobby is to deliver shocking facts within a deadpan and to ask deep philosophical questions. Through an interview with her mom we learn about her Nubian heritage and a long history of generations displacement. Mahmoud and Khalid on the other hand are more calm and observant. Through their filmmaking journey we learn about their Syrian and Turkman heritage. With Mila we see the countryside of Limavady and learn about a more relaxed way of living where children are more connected to nature and where the girl’s artistic abilities are developing. Through this pluralistic film Northern Ireland is portrayed as a changing place with more than one face.
