The Ghost of Richard Harris

Synopsis

“At least if I died tomorrow, you knew that I was here.” One of the many disarming statements voiced by the singular Irish actor, poet and singer Richard Harris (1930 - 2002), of whom it’s easy to speak in superlatives. Forty inimitable years full of fabulous and controversial moments from his private and professional life, dating from Harris’s iconic roles in the dramas THIS SPORTING LIFE and RED DESERT, to the wisdom, tenderness
and dignity with which he imbued his Marcus Aurelius in GLADIATOR and Albus Dumbledore in the first two Harry Potter films. Seasoned filmmaker Adrian Sibley adopts an original approach to address the conventions of the documentary portrait, among others, assisted by Harris’s sons, Jared, Jamie and Damian. Spacewoman Spacewoman

Director: Hannah Berryman

Year: 2024

A landmark feature documentary about astronaut Eileen Collins, the first woman to pilot and command the Space Shuttle. Eileen’s incredible journey starts with her smalltown beginnings, sees her smash through many glass ceilings, and culminates in four dramatic space shuttle missions, the last being possibly the most dangerous and most important of them all. At its heart the film is the moving human drama of one family, where a mother’s extraordinary career takes us straight to the big philosophical question of what is the level of acceptable risk in human endeavour? This film celebrates Commander Collins’ trailblazing NASA career which opened the way for women to become spacecraft pilots and commanders, and proved a perfect riposte to a previous generation of male astronauts who thought there was no place for women to lead the way in space. Director: Niyaz Saghari

THE WALNUT OF KNOWLEDGE turns Niyaz and Jonah’s yearly travels to Iran into a layered home movie. Based in a family garden outside of Tehran, we spend time with Jonah: watching his quest finding treasures beneath an old Walnut tree. The 80 year old Walnut tree has been a witness to many events from war to revolution, generations coming and going. Jonah hears these voices whilst he tries to understand his connection to this land. We hear mother and son’s reflections on life, history and belonging.
