The Noon Gun

Synopsis

In 1971 the experimental film maker Anthony Stern travelled to Afghanistan with his 16mm film camera. The footage was lost for almost 30 years. Rediscovered in 2003, if forms the basis of this impressionistic film-poem, with an original soundtrack provided by the world fusion musicians 'Equa'.

Previously unseen footage of Blind Faith’s famous first performance at a free concert in Hyde Park in 1969 incorporating footage of the director Anthony Stern and his friends in the park that day. The sense of the film is as a poignant reflection on the ‘end of an era’, the drawing to a close of the ‘golden idealism’ of the 1960’s.

Based on recently rediscovered footage, originally shot in 1968, this is a portrait of Syd Barrett’s (Pink Floyd) girlfriend Iggy, referred to ubiquitously and affectionately by those who knew her in the late 1960’s as ‘Iggy The Eskimo Girl’.
