Turn It Loose

Inside Out: The People's Art Project
Director: Alastair Siddons
Year: 2013
This fascinating documentary tracks the evolution of the biggest participatory art project in the world, the wildly popular 'Inside Out'. Travel the globe with French artist JR as he motivates entire communities to define their most important causes with incredibly passionate displays of giant black and white portraits pasted in the street. We witness young and old taking ownership of walls that were previously restricted and in doing so testing the limits of what they thought was possible. In capturing the process, Alastair Siddons creates a glowing testament to the power of image and the role that art can play in transforming communities.
In the Dark Half
Director: Alastair Siddons
Year: 2011
Marie is frightened. On the edge of her small run-down, working class town bad things are happening. It might be her fault or it might be something much worse. She is both terrified of and yet drawn to the dark forces that seem to emanate from the ancient hill that overlooks the estate. Marie is also struggling with her conflicting feelings towards her neighbour, Filthy, a hard-drinking poacher and father of 8 year-old Sean. Whilst she is baby-sitting Sean a tragic accident occurs. She is sure something very nasty is now out to get her and soon nowhere will be safe. A serious, soulful and scary film with an unexpected twist about what it really means to come back from the dead.
Dancing on Road
Director: Lauren Gee
Year: 2024
Documenting and celebrating the Black British female roller-skating community, showcasing its long history and fixture within popular culture. Blurring the boundaries between documentary and music video, this experimental film reveals the expansive network of London’s Black skate scene through two key individuals that share their stories and delve into what this space and their skate crews and mentors provide them. This joyous exploration gives visibility to a subculture that to many outsiders is unknown but is made familiar through its nostalgic lens which pays homage to the sports DIY and music-led roots.
