Duck Duck

Director: Rachel Maclean

Year: 2023

A daring deepfake short that follows Sean Connery's unravelling after he witnesses Marilyn Monroe's return from the dead. The film raises compelling questions about truth and power, and satirises some of the more histrionic narratives pushed by the media regarding deepfakes and their contribution to the 'decline of truth'.
Official Selection International Film Festival Rotterdam 2024 - World premiere
Official Selection London Short Film Festival 2024

Make Me Up Make Me Up

Director: Rachel Maclean

Year: 2018

Created by Scottish artist Rachel Maclean in 2018 to mark 100 years since women were first given the right to vote in the United Kingdom. Part horror movie, part comedy, MAKE ME UP reflects on the shortcomings of our journey towards equality throughout the past century.
The film imagines a dystopian future where a group of women are trapped in a cruel reality TV-style competition in the brutal modernist setting of St Peter’s Seminary. Here, voting is not a liberation – it is a harsh judgement the contestants must face. New arrival Siri learns the rules of a show where compliance and attractiveness are key. Emboldened by her growing friendship with fellow inmate Alexa, Siri finds ways of sabotaging the system and discovers some terrible truths in the process.
Official Selection BFI London Film Festival 2018 - Experimenta Special Presentation - World premiere
Official Selection International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) 2019 - Perspectives

Spite Your Face Spite Your Face

Director: Rachel Maclean

Year: 2017

Simultaneously sumptuous and gorgeous, garish and grim, this is a re-working of Pinocchio for the neo-liberal era. Rachel Maclean’s dark fairytale, which represented Scotland at the Venice Biennale 2017, depicts a brash and baroque binary world of poverty and riches where the prospect of easy wealth tempts even good boys like Pic into bad ways. But if everyone believes the lie, what’s the problem?
Official Selection BFI London Film Festival 2017 - Experimenta Strand
