In June 2015 Alex Smith completed an Ironman triathlon, known as the toughest single day challenge you can undertake, carrying his 40kg disabled son the whole way. An epic achievement for his son, who is dying from a fatal muscle wasting disease: Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

'The Outcast' is based on Sadie Jones’ debut novel of the same name and tells the story of ten year Lewis Aldridge who witnesses his mother’s tragic death. His emotionally distant father struggles to deal with the situation and soon remarries. Lewis is taunted about the circumstances surrounding his mother’s death and begins to self-harm. And subsequently sets the local church on fire and is sent to prison. Once released from prison, he has increasingly complicated relationships with the women in his life including his stepmother as he struggles to face his demons.

A head-on collision between fantasy and reality told from the twisted world view of Errol – a sexually repressed teenager born in the wreckage of a Lada crash.
