Woody Allen's You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger follows a pair of married couples, Alfie and Helena, and their daughter Sally and husband Roy, as their passions, ambitions, and anxieties lead them into trouble and out of their minds.

In this case the brothers are working class and brilliantly acted by Ewan McGregor and Colin Farrell. Tom Wilkinson also appears as he's never been seen before and Sally Hawkins plays Colin's loving, terrified fiancée, while Hayley Atwell plays the ravishing, unattainable love/sex object of Ewan McGregor. The photography is by the brilliant Vilmos Zsigmond and the astonishing score by the great Philip Glass. A very powerful suspense drama,' (Woody Allen).

Twenty-five-year-old Jonathan Newman credits thriftiness and resourcefulness as key to getting his film made. He pre-sold the internet video-on-demand rights to British Telecom (a first, which he attributes to luck and good timing) and, in a shock move for a low-budget British film, even snagged a UK distributor - none other than the mighty Redbus which picked up the film at rough-cut stage.

Shot over 21 days, Being Considered is a romantic comedy following the separate but connected fortunes of two hapless men: aspiring screenwriter Jake (Gimme, Gimme, Gimme's James Dreyfus in a rare straight role) and petty thief Jojo (Tom Farrelly). Convinced that his career is going nowhere and depressed by his love life, Jake escapes to Brighton and a life of hedonism with his best friend (Adam Levy). Meanwhile, Jojo steals one of Jake's screenplays and embarks on a new highly successful creative sideline.

Newman describes his film as "commercial, feelgood and Woody Allen-ish about a north London Jewish guy. It's not so much a comment on the film industry as a comment on life, career and success. The theme is really that you can't compare yourself to anyone else, that it's no good judging yourself by other people and that's what the main character comes to terms with."

Newman is now waiting for the film to be released in the UK sometime later this year. Meanwhile he is working on his follow-up, Salsa Con Fusion, with UK production company Dan Films, one of three projects he has in the pipeline.

Synopsis

The second feature from Stella Does Tricks director Coky Giedroyc, Women Talking Dirty charts the ups and downs in the relationship between two friends in Edinburgh: headstrong single mother Cora (Helena Bonham Carter) and shy but successful cartoonist Ellen (Gina McKee) who is struggling to support her no-good gambling husband. As they gamely deal with the vicissitudes of life, their friendship is tested but ultimately proves too strong to crumble.



The film is based on the popular novel by Scottish author Isla Dewar, published in 1996, and marks the debut production from Elton John's Rocket Pictures, which acquired the rights to the novel and then brought on board Giedroyc on the strength of her previous film. Rocket then teamed up with Jean Doumanian, the New York-based producer best known for her collaborations with Woody Allen, in an Anglo-American co-production. The work-in-progress print was screened at last year's Toronto Film Festival, since when the film has been back into the cutting rooms for fine-tuning. It has just been completed.



Meanwhile, Rocket Pictures is developing a number of features across the genres and budget ranges, including the partly-animated Just So series, in co-production with the Walt Disney Co, and So I Am Glad, an adaptation of another Scottish novel, this time by AL Kennedy, which will be co-produced and star husband and wife team Ed Harris and Amy Madigan.
