Synopsis

Between being bullied at school, put upon by her overbearing boss at the local arcade and having to look after her younger brother, sister and emotionally unstable mother, life isn’t easy for Sarah Taylor. However, when Sarah’s drama teacher channels her ferocious and volatile energies in to a stand-up comedy routine for the graduation showcase, Sarah discovers that she may have a hidden talent. As her love for comedy grows and the showcase draws nearer, the delicate balance in her life becomes increasingly difficult to maintain. Little by little the walls start to close in, ultimately forcing her to choose between her responsibilities as a carer and her newfound passion for comedy. Synopsis

Lewis is a seemingly ordinary guy, but under the surface he hides a singular obsession – revenge – and the focus of his obsession is Cathy. In broad daylight, Lewis kidnaps Cathy and takes her to his home in the middle of nowhere. But this is no impulse crime and it’s clear he’s planned this meticulously. He’s built a soundproofed cell measuring 10 feet by 10 feet where he will extract a dark secret from Cathy’s past. But there is more to Cathy than meets the eye. As Lewis’ motive for kidnapping reveals itself, it’s clear that Cathy will not become a victim and is a formidable match for her kidnapper.

The Tate Gallery recently staged a retrospective of the surrealist Leonora Carrington (1917- 2011), famously the lover of Max Ernst. Novelist Chloe Aridjis, who knew the artist from her native Mexico, was made guest curator of the exhibition.
