Synopsis

Mi Piace is a film of made with the documentation of one performance to camera, where during a spurious singing rehearsal, the singer's body is progressively bound to test the changes in the voice. The film leaves ambiguity as to the exact nature of the events, which are presented as a diverse collection of documentation, hence suggesting a history.

The singer is asked to perform repeatedly a popular aria (O Mio Babbino Caro), at each repetition (itself interrupted in mid flow at different points) the singer's body is bound, starting from the ankles, and proceeding upwards. The section isolated in the soundtrack Mi Piace, is part of the aria and means  like' or in its original context 'I would like to'.

A collaborative dramatic reworking of a 'psychedelically enhanced' excerpt from the award-winning film ‘San Francisco’. The carefree spirit of the original 1968 film is placed in a sobering and revelatory context through the juxtaposition of the original footage with audio drawn from the seminal events of that momentous year. Part of a multi-channel installation, presented here as a short film.

Vicki spent 4 months with 'access all areas' to the BBC’s million strong archive. This tells the story, through layers of A/V collage, of how the artist can bring about positive change in culture. The film portrays the playfulness of the artist/director, moving images, scenery and context with surprising results.

With the weather increasingly at the forefront of our news and media together with the idea that someone somewhere has their hand on the volume knob, End of the Street takes the original 19th Century Beaufort Wind Force scale and conjures a response, incrementally turning up the strangeness.

Poet and broadcaster Ian McMillan produced the poetry specially. His interpretation of the wind scale transposes the action into the familiar surroundings of an average street. Imagemaker Andy Martin produces a mix of animated graphics, 3D, live action, photography and typographics all underpinned with a bespoke score by composer Robert Worby.

An experimental essay film that contrasts two separate murder scenes from Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" and Mary Harron's "American Psycho" in order to make a statement about film censorship.

Synopsis

Filmed at the Demilitarized Zone on the border between North and South Korea, the work 38TH PARALLEL seeks to portray the particular reality of this contested site. It is a reality marked by an eerie sense of latency. Constantly alert, constantly inert, North and South face each other in a stalemate situation sealed by a cease-fire agreement 55 years ago. In her video, Davies operates in this void.

Working with the United Nations Armistice Commission and the United States Armed Forces in Korea, she shows how political reality manifests itself here, beyond representation, in the ways how space is structured and time is regimented in this militarized environment. Facing each other across the turnpike, for instance, border guards of both sides execute the silent ceremonies of authority proscribed by their military protocol. It’s choreography of empty gestures enacted on the stage of a deserted strip of land and bleak interrogation rooms.

Davies then shows the local epicentre of conflict of global proportions to be a non-place where power manifests itself in ghostly acts of decorum performed in suspended time.

Language and property crumble in an exploration of the impact of coastal erosion on the people and landscape of North Norfolk. Concentrating on the small villages of Walcott and Cley next the Sea, the film combines interviews, field recordings and archive footage.

Synopsis

'Across the Valley was shot, and the sound gathered, between July 2004 and January 2006, in the Cevennes, in the south of France. The film is from a single vantage point, a small area of flatness on the side of a steep valley. I filmed the view of the landscape from this point, through three of the four seasons, as well as elements of the scene closer to the camera.

The resulting film draws on, and develops, my existing interests in the time-based representation of simultaneity, and in the temporal and sequencing possibilities inherent to film editing,' (Director Nick Collins).
