Throwing Paint Tins off the Roof is a poetic documentary about community, architecture and social change demonstrated through the fates of two brother buildings. Through the stories of past inhabitants of the two houses, this documentary awakens the memories of a fading era and displaced community in East London.

Arriving without her husband for reasons that are at first unexplained, Anna enters the cosy world of a bourgeois family on holiday. In her mid-40s with no children of her own, Anna is unrelated to this extended family, which belongs to her old school friend Verena. 
 
Phone calls to her husband Alex reveal a rift in their marriage, hiding an unspoken sadness in both their lives. In a series of subtle ellipses, and with a deliberate avoidance of melodrama, we observe Anna as she rejects the company of the adults, in favour of the carefree teenagers. They seem to fill an empty space in her life. Through Anna's awkward attempts to join in with the teenagers' escapades, she unwittingly becomes the centre of a breakdown within the family, and finds herself shunned by everyone. She attempts to find solace through phone calls to her husband Alex but is met by jealousy and suspicion. 
 
Anna retreats to an anonymous hotel room, where Verena visits her, and Anna's untold story finally emerges. Her curious behaviour appears in a new light and she now has to pick up the pieces of her relationship with Alex.

The UK experience was of a decadent hippie movement and the apolitical skinhead movement being swept aside by punk. This programme reassesses from a punk women’s perspective, women’s role in this dynamic movement that irreversibly changed the face of society, politics art and music.

This documentary describes the high rate of suicides in rural Sri Lanka and shows that often people harm themselves to communicate their feelings. It looks into the social cultural and religious reasons for this act of self harm.
