Synopsis

The peace of a small village in Oxfordshire is disturbed when a young, attractive gypsy woman arrives one night and encamps in one of the resident's (Rachel) garden. A series of mysterious events and misfortunes begin to blight the villagers. The gypsy (Leah) is blamed, and the villagers determine to rid themselves of her at any cost. Rachel is emotionally drawn to the gypsy and aids her despite several misgivings. Unknown to all is the fact that the gypsy is on a quest, driven by visions, to discover a dark secret about the villagers and the death of her mother thirty years ago.

Following a small group of passengers on a day excursion upon the River Clyde in Scotland, aboard the famous Waverley, the last sea-going Paddle Steamer in the World.
Sitting together on the deck, enjoying some drinks under the Scottish sun, they pass the time sharing a few stories, which of course they maintain all to be true, and just so happens to involve people they know, or friends of people they know.
The passengers share four tales together, which make up the four segments of the film; 'Truth Machine', 'Chatroom Desire', 'Spark of Innocence' and 'Adam's Journey'. The first three tales seem grounded in what could appear to be very possible circumstances, but the final tale seems perhaps a bit far-fetched, surrounded and steeped in supernatural drama.

'Piercing Brightness' is a science fiction film directed by internationally acclaimed artist Shezad Dawood and set in Preston, Lancashire. The film looks to play on the border between mainstream narrative cinema and experimental film making and utilises science fiction as a backdrop from which to contest fixed notions of race, migration and identity. The film combines digital and analogue processes, high production values and low-fi aesthetics to tell a story through both its narrative and distortions of time brought about by experiments with the various formats used. It incorporates local institutions and people as extended cast, in a process whereby there is a slippage between fiction and document.

Jiang and Shin, agents who have been dispatched from the home planets, land in a spaceship outside Preston, in the North of England. In the guise of a young Chinese boy and girl they are to re-establish contact and effect the retrieval of the 'Glorious 100', agents who were sent to this planet millennia ago to study and observe. Living through countless lives without any scope for return, many have become corrupted, forgetting their original purpose and slowly becoming influenced by and in turn influencing their adopted home.
