Synopsis

Christie Malry is a simple man. He lives with his mother and works in a bank. He discovers the principles of Double Entry Book-Keeping, for every Debit there must be a Credit, and the picture becomes clear: Debit Christie for offence received, Credit society for offence given.

Christie opens his account with society and the reckoning begins, all accounts to be settled in full. His mother dies, he gets a girlfriend, the future looks bright. He starts to make the books balance with seemingly trivial acts of vandalism, but the clearer Christie sees the more he is owed and his actions escalate and all the while he remains in the eyes of the world a lowly clerk. Christie Malry is unstoppable but is brought to book in the end with bitter irony.

With Christie's discovery of Double Entry we are thrown back in time to 15th century Italy and the inventor of modern accounting, a Dominican priest Fra Luca Pacioli. The past and present interweave.

This is a black comedy, a fable for our time. Christie is the logical conclusion of a society devoted to money and its acquistion at all costs.

It's early Friday evening and vegetarian keep-fit bachelor Donald Leek (David Threlfall) is preparing for an exciting night in his Isleworth basement flat. From the streets of Newcastle - where we find Annelise speaking frankly to the camera about her experiences as a young lesbian - to the emotionally charged reenactment of hercoming out to her mother, this highly original film provides a rare auto-portrait wherefiction and documentary collide. In the end what emerges is not only a remarkable encounter with a young woman, but also a story that has broader implications about being young, being at the cusp of adulthood, and finding one's identity.

In the heart of Irish London, beer is thicker than water.

In Kilburn's square mile there are 63 Irish pubs. This is the story of just one.

Mickey, the pub's young barmen, is sure that his job is preventing him from 'getting on' in life. So he's returning to Ireland to take up a job with his brother. This, his last week, should be his most enjoyable.

Fat chance. The landlord is in hospital, and Mickey is left in charge. The regulars appear on cue, taking the same seats in front of the same drinks at the same time as every other day. If only everything else about them was as predictable.

With their eccentricities, ravings and antics, Mickey's own girl trouble, and the bizarre characters that pass through the pub, it's now shaping up to be the worst week of his life.

But as the last day approaches and the madness reaches its climax, Mickey comes to understand the real people behind the regulars and, more importantly, that for all of them the pub represents a home from home - a haven where all their problems can be forgotten. He'd be crazy not to stay.

When a group of young English friends, living together in a bizarre house just outside of London, invite three Americans over for a drug fuelled weekend, things really kick off. As the two cultures collide and the chemicals take over, it soon becomes apparent that one of the weekend guests is a member of a newly formed net-based terrorist group, The Conceptualists, whose underlying principle is extreme violence for its own sake. It also becomes apparent that the assembled guests are the next intended victims for the Group's website. The party stops partying.

Directed with energy and pace, Dead Babies throws its audience through a roller-coaster ride of distraction, derision and destruction.
