States- is a psychological journey through three human states: Restriction, rebellion and finally freedom. States- is also a visual struggle between technology and humanity and the irony in which the eventual human freedom takes.

Still Life is a short film drama which explores the thoughts, emotions and desires of an old bed-bound woman whose life is limited to one room in her terraced house in Belfast. It is a room of photographs, memento's and regrets.

Sitting in a train, watching the landscape flying past, you imagine a story involving two sunflowers trying to face each other against Nature's rules. This film uses the sunflowers as metaphors to illustrate the personal conflict between individual attraction and society's rules.

Synopsis

A city in Ireland, near future. An uneasy peace has hung over the city for a number of years now. Law and order is maintained by two rival gangs, the Boilermen and the Westies. Between them they rule the city.





Luke Bradley is an ordinary citizen who has avoided being involved with either of the gangs, until his child is murdered, the latest in a series of child killings which have swept the town. Each side has been affected by these deaths. Bradley is approached by Friday Knight, the leader of the Westies, to broker a deal with the Boilermen, to join forces and find the culprit.





Local rumour and whisper lead both gangs to Sam Magee, an old Preacher and religious recluse. The Preacher, pleading his innocence, is taken to Sunset Heights, a pagan stone circle, where the Druids once performed magical rites to their God of the Sun. There he is tried, executed and buried. Normality returns.





When another child goes missing, accusations fly between both sides. Following sightings of the Preacher around town the gangs go together to dig up the grave and find to their horror the body has vanished. Terror and suspicion sweeps through the gangs. No one can be trusted. Bradley is caught in the middle as he desperately tries to find the murderer before everyone is destroyed.

Young Martin finds himself in prison, the fall guy for his brother. When Martin gets out, the guards hand him two years of unopened love letters and a warning: get a job or end up back in jail. Home is just as he left it - hopeless. Martin's only hope comes from the sage advice from his sax-playing cell mate, Jack, who taught him how to see his future and how to play it. Martin decides to start his own band.


He recruits bassist Buddy, a skirt chasing football star, drummer Oi, an ex-skinhead, and a brass section made up of bar flies who owe his dad a favour. But the one person who can transform the band from a dream to success is the beautiful singer Joan, the love of Martin's life. Joan, married to Martin's arresting officer, wonders if this is just another one of Martin's dead end dreams.


Martin convinces them all, most of all Joan, that their dream is worth fighting for. Despite a raid staged by Joan's jealous husband, the band's break-through gig is a smashing success and it lands them a recording contract, a happy ending! That is . . . until the police find that Martin's brother backed the band with stolen money and Martin ends up back in jail. But this time Martin walks out of jail with Jack and finds Joan and his band waiting and ready to swing!

It includes interviews with the founder of the Amsterdam Tattoo Museum, the foremost British tattoo artist, a professor of 19th Century History identification marks; and a psychiatrist.

Combining a vicious sense of humour with hard-talking drama, the film reaches into the hearts and minds of the chemical generation, casting a dark and unholy light into the hidden corners of the human psyche. The first film of the trilogy, The Granton Star Cause, is a black comedy of revenge, football and religion. The second, A Soft Touch, is a story of love and betrayal with Johnny as the 'soft touch', who is all too easily manipulated by those around him. The final film is a surreal comic story about marriage, babies and an excess of chemical abuse.
