Synopsis

June 2012. The Afghanistan war is still raging. London is gripped in pre Olympic fever and it is the Queens Jubilee. After moving their upper middle-class lifestyle from London to a small town in the north of England, Emily invites their new next door neighbours Dawn and Alan over to become acquainted and Oliver begrudgingly complies. A clash of opinions about art, sport and politics ensues and a major disagreement concludes the evening with a startling revelation. The lives of these four neighbours begin to intertwine in ways none of them anticipated. Emily's desire for solidarity falls short of fruition. Oliver's questionable behaviour, the disappearance of Alan's cat, and Emily's break in sobriety all contribute to the story's end. With Emily oblivious to a major event, Alan unaware of his cat's whereabouts and Dawn in a state of mental collapse, the lives of these four neighbours will never be the same again.

Synopsis

THE LETTER follows the struggle of deaf people who fought back against Nazis’ oppression during World War Two. It tells the story of a deaf regiment of stormtroopers, and charts the rise of the Nazi-ruled social org for deaf people (Reich Union of the Deaf of Germany).
The story is based on true events with fictionalised characters. "Deaf people like the ones in ‘The Letter’ were really at the forefront of the Nazi euthanasia machine, Nazis were so ruthlessly efficient at exterminating deaf and disabled people that a lot of stories were lost.” Justin Edgar
THE LETTER was produced by Justin Edgar, who is hard of hearing, and directed by Sam Dore, with an entire cast and crew of deaf artists.

Written by Eugene O’Neill between 1941 and 1942, 'Long Day’s Journey Into Night' is a foundational American tragedy. As well as winning the Tony Award for Best Play in 1956, O’Neill was posthumously awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for his semi-autobiographical magnum opus.
