Synopsis

A beautiful young woman, Ilona Tasuiev is violently kidnapped. Initial attempts to find her are in vain, but no ransom has been demanded. As the snow falls, and Officer Karas takes over the investigation, he knows that he holds Ilona's future in his hands. The cop sinks deeper and deeper into the urban jungles that are the new Parisian districts, governed by local mafia and militia: cities within a city, dedicated to partying and forbidden pleasures. Karas finds a connection between Ilona and disgraced scientist, Jonas Muller, and he meets Ilona's sister, Bislane, an organizer of underground techno raves. Karas constructs an intriguing picture of the missing girl, a child of war and exile, envied for her beauty, possessed of a brilliant imagination and a passion for perfection. As he retraces Ilona's movements, he senses he has unwelcome company, and his stalkers will do anything to get in his way. Karas is spied on and threatened, witnesses are assassinated, someone tries to kill him. The cop no longer knows if his quarry is victim or villain, angel or monster. To locate her becomes a matter of life or death for Karas, and maybe for the whole of civilization. She holds the scientific key to the ultimate question, whether man can be made God: the Renaissance protocol.

River Crossing is based on true story. A childhood memory of two sisters on a family excursion. Instructed by a dominant father to cross a dangerous river and return a stranger's belongings to the opposite bank, two young girls almost drown. A girl's voice narrates the main event but at the start of the river crossing, it is replaced by a woman's voice. This memorable day becomes the turning point of the girl's life, with no possibility of return. Running water, the wide river and the crossing serve as metaphors for her rites of passage to adulthood: the moment she grew years in a single day.

In August 2005, inspired by Harry Smith's anthology of American Folk Music, London DJ Alex Reuben set out alone on the American Road, fulfilling a lifelong dream to document the social dance of southern USA. His childhood inspiration to dance had been the music of New Orleans and Fats Domino. Reuben traveled from North Carolina to Memphis, Tennessee and onto Mississippi. Actor Gary gets his big break in a feature film but things just couldn't seem to get any worse. Gary is playing the part of Nathan, an gangster with a conscience determined to cut his ties with the underworld fraternity but he just can't seem to find the right emotion to nail the scene. The director's method of working is too unconventional and the cold hearted crew are wilting rapidly as the takes roll on. Will poor Gary finally hit his mark or will he slide into obscurity and remain in television for the remainder of his career?
