Synopsis

The legacy of Matsuo Basho (1644 – 1694), famous Japanese poet, is his elevation of haiku to the realm of high poetry. This film reveals a glimpse into an account of one of Basho’s journeys in the company of confidante and disciple, Chiri.

At a vibrant Nigerian traditional wedding, the bride, Trish, takes centre stage, radiating beauty and grace. Yet it’s her spirited 13-year-old sister, Bukky, who craves attention. Tasked with collecting money gifted to the bride, Bukky weaves through the chaotic celebration, dodging kicks and spilled drinks, her frustration mounting. Amidst the commotion, her eyes meet those of Samson, a boy her age sitting alone. Realizing its value, Samson’s mischievous grin sparks a daring idea: to abandon convention and chase adventure. They return to the reception to find chaos: frantic relatives, stern faces, and questions that cut like thunder. At the center of disarray, Bukky and Samson share a knowing smile, a silent bond from their adventure. When an aunt demands the money, they dash away once more, laughter and mischief trailing behind, leaving adults in pursuit and the night alive with possibility.
