This programme chronicles the restoration of the Franklin House in London's Craven Street into an educational centre for Britain and Europe. Franklin was an American inventor, philosopher, journalist and political scientist and President of the Pennsylvania Anti-Slavery Society. He lived in London from 1757 to 1775 and was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.

These were the babies born at the beginning of the twentieth century, amongst them Rosa Mintz, daughter of immigrants, who served in the Red Cross with the Allies liberating Belsen concentration camp and Gai Eaton, entering his eighth decade when we encountered him still working at the Central London Mosque. This is a celebration of the diverse community of older Britons.
