Project Detail

On the Milky Road

Synopsis

Developed from Emir Kusturica’s short film 'Our Life', this film is an epic three-part story, with Kusturica in the central role of Kosta. In the first section, he plays a quixotic figure, riding a donkey and delivering milk across military lines during a civil war. In the second, he meets a beautiful Italian-Serbian (Monica Bellucci), embarking on a passionate, forbidden and ultimately tragic love affair. In the final section, he is a monk collecting rocks as part of a Sisyphean task. Channeling magical realism, the film combines folk elements and animal imagery with the mechanical brutality of modern warfare. (LFF brochure)

The aftermath of a sexual assault (rape). Exploring the deep-felt consequences for all involved. At its heart an epic story of a couple's fight for the survival of their love.

Virginia Wool's Night & Day Virginia Woolf's Night & Day

Director: Tina Gharavi

Year:

Based on Virginia Woolf’s funniest novel, NIGHT AND DAY is an un-romantic comedy about a passionate astronomer Katharine Hilbery who does everything she can to avoid romantic love and marriage. Fun and contemporary in tone, this refreshing film showcases an ensemble of humourous performances against the ravishing backdrop of London in 1910, advances in science and technology and crumbling Edwardian patriarchy. Virginia’s story is as relevant to today as it ever was: women balancing romantic love with careers!

A Visit to Grandpa’s A Visit to Grandpa’s

Director: DJ Caruso

Year:

A VIST TO GRANDPA'S is a whimsical, heart-stirring tale based on Dylan Thomas’s classic short story. When a lonely boy is sent to spend the summer with his wildly eccentric grandfather in the countryside, he expects boredom but finds magic instead. Grandpa is nothing like he imagined: impulsive, outrageous, and full of mysterious stories that blur fact and fantasy. As the days stretch on, mischief turns to meaning, and their unexpected bond becomes a lifeline for them both. With Hopkins set to deliver a career- defining performance, this is a funny and deeply moving journey through memory, imagination and the strange magic of family.
