One Minute On Housing

Synopsis

A fever dream of myths, taxes and housing. Once upon a time in England. Windows were bricked up because of the window tax. Today windows are bricked up - although nowhere near as elegant a feature as found in the city's old houses - in houses facing demolition, preventing illegal entrance.

Wayfaring Stranger Wayfaring Stranger

Director: Andrea Luka Zimmerman

Year: 2024

WAYFARING STRANGER charts the life of an itinerant character, embodied by seven performers, across seven days representing seven decades. Running from the city, through post-industrial edge lands and manicured enclaves, they find themselves in forests, farms, mountains and finally at the shore. Along the way, which lasts a lifetime, they undergo a transformation, through the seasons and changing geography, both physically and emotionally, from youth to elderhood, and from a single, alienated being into an accepted element of the wider world. Their personal narrative co-exists with the past, present and future of the land they traverse. Each ‘day’ is a ‘station’ that signifies a turning point in their emotional development: from escape, through loss, grief and waywardness, to solidarity and co-existence.
Part fable, part manifesto, part poem, filmed across landscapes marked by centuries of ceaseless human extraction, Wayfaring Stranger asks what it takes to find a liveable life on one’s own terms and without conflict with others and the environment.
Within the sound design by multi-award-winning sound recordist Chris Watson, the polyphonic environment scores the seasonal changes alongside the human and topographic shifts.

Art Class Art Class

Director: Andrea Luka Zimmerman

Year: 2020

ART CLASS is a filmed performance lecture playing on, and exploring, the perennial tension between the two key words in its title, favouring wit over weaponizing and reflection over rhetoric but does not pull its punches when it comes to the real obstructions to working class creative progress.

Erase and Forget Erase and Forget

Director: Andrea Luka Zimmerman

Year: 2017

‘Bo’ Gritz is one of America’s highest decorated Vietnam veterans and the alleged real life inspiration behind Rambo. He also killed 400 people, turned against Washington and moved to the Nevada desert where he now sleeps with many weapons. Filmed over ten years using impressive visual material, Zimmerman’s portrait of Bo embodies contemporary American society in all its dizzying complexity and contradictions.
Official Selection BFI London Film Festival 2017 - Experimenta Strand
