On the eve of retirement a middle class, judgmental snob discovers her husband has been having an affair with her best friend. Shocked, she finds her aspirational world turned upside down as she approaches the 'third age' of her life. Unable to deal with what she considers the shame of her predicament, she goes into exile with her estranged bohemian sister, who lives on an impoverished inner-city council estate and is a keen member of a senior citizens dance group based at London’s Sadler's Wells.

When drum & bass fan Jay is sent on a countryside walk by his probation officer as part of his mental health rehabilitation programme, he arms himself with headphones, good tunes and fluorescent snacks. But his iPod dies, and he can’t handle the silence. Visions of Pete, his deceased friend, begin to haunt him. Lost in the countryside, Jay eventually finds himself on a bus with a friendly driver, where a conversation about Pete forces him to confront the grief he has been avoiding.
