Twenty-eight short experimental videos made by me over the last 10 years are being shown simultaneously on 8 projectors at Espace Croisé, Centre d'Art Contemporain, La Condition Publique in Roubaix, a short metro journey from Lille. This video gives some idea of what the show looks like.

"ORWO, is an excellent yet inexpensive 16mm film stock made in Eastern Germany and used by many experimental filmmakers in the past. I scratch off the image surface with a needle then sweep away the emulsion dust beneath the microscope... I used a low powered USB microscope purchased from a LIDL supermarket in West London to capture the image to computer. The deliberately scratched film originates from a 16mm roll used to make image masks for my film 'St.Paul's Cathedral Movie', processed at the London Film-makers' Co-op in 1972." The spoken text of Père Lachaise is a poem about scattering ashes, illicitly, in the famous Paris cemetery. On the screen, the central image is the face of the dead woman, photographed in ATS uniform in black and white. The face is almost always partly obscured by flames. But there is humour in the text, and the brilliant colours of the flames, and the fairground music, suggest life and energy.

Richmond on Thames has two River Gods, identical reclining nudes in middle age, who pour the river waters out from urns. They are made of an artificial stone, Coade stone, developed at the end of the eigtheenth century to satisfy a demand for garden ornaments. This video celebrates their improbable dignity and resilience.

Scenes appropriated from Antonioni’s famous film L’Avventura are centred on Monica Vitti as the central subject. The constant alternating positive and negative image appears to vary with the percussive sound of Gamelan music.

Action sequences taken from three cinema films are turned into a semi-abstract experience in which the world is literally turned on its side. Material was taken from DVD’s purchased recently from charity shops in London, a further example of appropriating dominant cinema as a canvas for video art.
