Synopsis

A heartfelt ode to his agrarian roots, Way Of The Morris follows award-winning filmmaker Tim Plester on a journey from the English village green to the killing fields of The Somme, as he searches for a connection with the much-maligned native dance traditions that run deep in his bloodline.

Featuring contributions from singer/songwriter Billy Bragg and Fairport Convention's Chris Leslie, what emerges is a poignant and evocative exploration of the origins and impulses behind Morris dancing, and an attempt to understand its place within enchanted Albion's ongoing story.

In a daring attempt to end the war by Christmas, the British High Command hatch an extraordinary plan - Operation Market Garden. 35,000 troops are dropped behind enemy lines in German-occupied Holland. In the midst of the largest airborne invasion in history, one small unit of men, codenamed 'Matchbox', has its own hidden agenda. When Matchbox are shot down short of their landing zone, the odds of their success seem hopeless. Seven very different British soldiers find themselves separated from the Allied invasion, on a collision course with three renegade German soldiers who want to lay claim to the hoard.

In this cool, but surprisingly emotional, gangster flick, Jack (Ken Stott - Fever Pitch, Shallow Grave) is a true gentleman and a class act of the short con game. With his young protégé, the charmingly streetwise Steve (Nick Moran - Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, The Musketeer) alongside the sharp and sexy Jenny (Kate Ashfield - The War Zone, Late Night Shopping), and the 'bloody hopeless' Goat (Dominic Monaghan - The Lord of the Rings Trilogy), he runs a formidable team of quick-witted and successful con artists.
 
Keeping the team on track and making sure Steve is focussed on the play (not on Jenny's foxy good looks) is the only trouble for Jack - until a simple heist goes wrong and they are lumbered with a truck full of illegal immigrants destined for the sex trade. While most of them scarper, two of them, a scruffy 10-year-old girl and her frightened young brother, are left in Jack's reluctant charge. But then the furious smuggler sets out on a bloody vendetta, determined to wreak revenge for the loss of his precious cargo.

Synopsis

Gilly steps out of prison with nothing and no one except J, a small time hustler who owes him money. They go back a long way and that means something. All Gilly wants is to start over, but J has gone and invested his money in some half baked gun deal behind his boss's back and needs Gilly's help. So Gilly goes along with him, as he always has done.

As they get deeper into London's underworld, it's clear that J's drug habit is spiralling out of control and his ruthless boss Max is already one step ahead of him. J's wife Marie wants out, but he has stopped listening and their world is falling apart. Then Max finds out about J's dealings and demands he betray Gilly, setting him up so he has no choice. Desperate, his back against the wall, J takes action the only way he knows how. But when all hell breaks loose, it is Gilly who has been playing a knife edged game all along.

Synopsis

The dark story of a young man freed from prison who betrays his best friend to escape London's seedy and depraved underground crime world, Shooters was written nearly seven years ago by three friends, Gary Young, Andrew Howard and Louis Dempsey.



Last summer, they showed the script to young British directing and producing partnership Colin Teague and Marjory Bone of Cool Beans Productions, with whom Howard had worked as an actor on the 30-minute film North West One.



"I liked the fact that it was gritty and raw and not in the same vein as the more cheeky chappy gangster films that have come out," Bone explains. "It was very realistic in the way it dealt with drugs and guns and not at all glamorous."



Cool Beans agreed to produce the film with Dutch company Catapult Productions, run by Glenn Durfort, with whom Teague had studied at the London International Film School. Dutch producer Jan Bruinstroop came in as executive producer as both Bone and Teague were both first-time film-makers. The budget was raised via a private investor connected to Catapult Productions. Howard and Dempsey took the lead roles of the two friends while the cast was filled out with familiar names, such as Matthew Rhys and Ioan Gruffud. "We were lucky that Colin and Andrew played in a football team with some lads who happened to be up-and-coming British actors," says Bone.



Principal photography took place during November and December in London. The production took up residence in a huge disused warehouse above a McDonald's in the King's Cross area. In addition to providing sets and studio space, the warehouse also housed production offices, wardrobe and prop departments.



Several international sales agents are now in talks with Cool Beans to acquire the project.
