Synopsis

The controversy surrounding the Parthenon Marbles centres entirely on their initial acquisition and their current location in the British Museum. In 1983, when she became the Minister for Culture of Greece, the esteemed actress and politician Melina Mercouri reignited Greece’s argument that they were illegally removed from the Parthenon temple in Athens by Lord Elgin. The British Museum has consistently affirmed the legality of its acquisitions and that they are better and more securely preserved and appreciated in London. In the past, it has been stated that the sculptures are an essential part of its wider world collection, which enables visitors to understand both the full cultural and historical context of ancient Greece. Greece asserts that the sculptures are integral to its national identity and historical narrative, and that only their reunification with the remaining Parthenon artefacts in Athens can provide the fullest, most complete, and meaningful context for their display. With both sides standing firm on their positions, the debate remains unresolved. THE MARBLES advocates for reunification in what has become the art world’s most pressing issue.

Synopsis

Following five international riders from the USA, Canada, South Africa and the United Kingdom and Ireland as they take part in the Mongol Derby horse race in Mongolia. A recreation of Ghenggis Khan's postal system, this multi-stage, multi-horse race over a 1000 kilometers of Mongolian steppe is the longest and toughest horse race on the planet. The riders are out on their own and must navigate with GPS from horse station to horse station, where they change their horses every 40 kilometers, staying the nights out in the wild or with nomad families along the way.

'The First Film' is filmmaker David Nicholas Wilkinson’s 32 year quest to prove that in October 1888 Louis Le Prince produced the world's first films in Leeds, England. Once Le Prince had perfected his projection machine he arranged to demonstrate his discovery to the American public in New York and thus the world. However on 16th September 1890, just weeks before he was due to sail to New York Louis Le Prince stepped onto the Dijon to Paris train and was never seen again. As no body was ever found no one could legally fight the Le Prince claim that he invented a camera that recorded the very first moving image. As a result, several years later, Thomas Edison and the Lumiere Brothers were to claim the glory and the prize of being acknowledged as the first people to pioneer film. Louis Le Prince was never added to history books. But for one lone voice, who worked with him, Le Prince's name and his pioneering work was forgotten. Synopsis

A Serbian hitman travels to Edinburgh to try and kill a couple of witnesses to a crime. His client has already tried once to have them killed, resulting in the slaughter of nine innocent people. When the hitman succeeds in killing the witnesses, Stan Miller, the detective in charge of their protection, is suspended but vows to hunt down their killer and his client, who as a result of the death of the witnesses is now free on remand. When the client fails to pay the hitman his second payment for the job it becomes a three-way battle leading to a dramatic conclusion.
