Synopsis

Told entirely in drawings made over nearly thirty years by British artist/filmmaker Penny Andrea, LOCKS AND KEYS, WATER, TREES portrays the genesis of a rare brain tumor with its origins in early childhood. Diagnosed and treated in the artist's late twenties, the film reflects an ongoing process of recovery from traumatic brain injury. Portraying drawing as both escape and embrace, a 'shuttle between inner and outer worlds', and video as its counterpart medium in time, the film speaks to the communicative power of art to connect, explore and heal trauma. Synopsis

This humorous and melancholic portrait of a male voice choir in North East Wales begins with the filmmaker’s father, Ed, a 90-year-old widower, selling the family home and making early arrangements for his own funeral. Weekly practice is his last remaining solace, but with an average age of 74, his beloved choir is facing a crisis of its own. They must act fast or face extinction, and the hunt begins to find “brown haired men” in their 40s and 50s to keep the choir going. As their search intensifies, the group grows closer. Ed finds new meaning in his life, while Merf deals with his own bad news by focusing on the choir’s revival, and Gwyn laughs in the face of a prostate cancer diagnosis, walking the wing of a plane to raise money for charity. Framed through a letter to the Marxist revolutionary Rosa Luxemburg, RESISTERS is a celebration of Berlin's 100 years of resistance to fascism and a call to action against nationalism. Taking a two-fold journey through Berlin, a geographical one and a psychic one, Daniels Jewish flaneuse reflects on Berlin's turbulent history of revolution and resistance to fascism, and the dangerous growth of the nationalist AfD who became the main opposition party in the German parliament in 2017. Resisters follows the activities of the Omas Gegen Rechts (Grandmothers against the Right) who organise to fight the nationalist AfD which in 2017 became the strongest opposition party in the German Parliament. In poetic vignettes Daniels' voice, over slow-motion shots of streets and parks recounts the stories of resisters to fascism before and during the Third Reich. The fictionalised re-imagining of herself as witness to resistance brings into the light what may be still repressed and hidden.

On 10th and 11th August 1996, 250,000 young music fans converged on Knebworth Park to see Oasis play two record breaking, era defining shows. The landmark concerts sold out in under a day with over 2% of the UK population attempting to buy tickets. This was a time when the UK was slowly recovering from a decade of recession. A surging confidence in arts and culture ushered in Cool Britannia and Oasis meteoric rise reflected the country's new-found conviction and swagger. Featuring a setlist packed from beginning to end with stone cold classics, including Champagne Supernova, Wonderwall and Don't Look Back In Anger, the Knebworth concerts were both the pinnacle of the band's success and the landmark gathering for a generation. OASIS KNEBWORTH 1996 is the story of that weekend and the special relationship between Oasis and their fans that made it possible. It is told through the eyes of the fans who were there, with additional interviews with the band and concert organisers. Directed by Jake Scott from extensive concert and exclusive never-before seen footage, this is a joyful and at times poignant cinematic celebration of one of the most important concert events of the last 25 years.
