Synopsis

A short animated documentary about what it means to be conscious in a world that is becoming increasingly artificially intelligent; using hand drawn techniques to explore the human tendency to anthropomorphise simple drawings, and how we might do the same to machines.

Synopsis

In a hinterland within the 'elsewhere', a lone character meanders in search of meaning and understanding. Hither and dither doth he wander reflecting upon all things that came before and all things hereafter.
This work is a companion piece to Andrew Kotting's feature film LEK AND THE DOGS and was shot in the Atacama desert in Chile. Produced to run on a loop in a gallery 'space' the film exemplifies Kotting's ability to take an idea and run with it until it spills over into the expanded cinematic 'elsewhere'.
With the beguiling presence of French performance artist Xavier Tchili and sublime cinematography by Nick Gordon-Smith the work is designed to be experienced within the pitch black and the sound up high.

The Tate Gallery recently staged a retrospective of the surrealist Leonora Carrington (1917- 2011), famously the lover of Max Ernst. Novelist Chloe Aridjis, who knew the artist from her native Mexico, was made guest curator of the exhibition. Set between the real-life curation of the Tate show and something more fantasised, FEMALE HUMAN ANIMAL sees Chloe increasingly disappointed by her milieu - and increasingly haunted by Carrington’s strange artworks.
When an elusive, brooding man seems to offer more, Chloe begins to pursue him, but is she hunter, or hunted? Enabled by Carrington’s own defiantly mysterious mythology, she descends into a world of obsession.
Shot on a rare '80s video camera with a unique look, and deftly weaving fact and fiction, the film offers a darkly romantic fantasia of a woman who goes beyond societal norms, putting on screen the lurid unconscious of our new sexual politics.

A figure conjures a remedy from jars of spider webs and beeswax, while studying the pages of ‘Micrographia’ (Robert Hook, 1665); the first book to illustrate insects and plants as observed through the lens of a microscope.

Commissioned by Folklore Tapes for collaborative project ‘The Art of Magic: re-scoring and restoring objectless index cards from the Museum of Witchcraft’.

Synopsis

Hundreds of motorbikes are animated frame by frame in this homage to the iconic motorcycle design and culture of the 1950s and 60s. A rider prepares his bike and departs on an idealised journey into the countryside and into the future.

Synopsis

Stratum is a film that navigates through post-industrial landscapes on the European Route of Industrial Heritage, from Britain’s abandoned South Yorkshire coal seams to the culturally re-purposed collieries of the Ruhr Valley, Germany, via the former coal-mining region of Wallonia, Belgium. Contrasting the past and present, contemporary scenes are combined with archival film material, alongside audio narration from Miserie au Borinage (directed by Henri Storck and Joris Ivens, 1934), made in the depths of the Great Depression.

Synopsis

A short animated documentary which investigates the commonly misunderstood mental health behaviour of voice hearing.
Small boxes that contain flip book style animation are presented to show the emotion that people who hear voices feel.
The documentary is experimental and expressive in its approach, where the positives and negatives combine to fully express the subversive nature of a misinterpreted and unacknowledged behaviour.

A tale of one North Korean's struggle to leave behind the homeland, this stylised documentary with exclusive access unveils the depths of loss, longing and legacy amongst a community of North Korean defectors who have escaped their homeland to live in the leafy London suburb of New Malden.
