A new republic UAR – United African Republic – emerges from the former nation of Nigeria that was plunged into darkness by the long years of corruption and incompetent leadership. However, UAR hasn’t gotten on its feet yet; it suffers from security challenges. But its new leader President CEPHAS OBI is steadfast to combat insecurity by using the AI technology U-Watch that detects potential crimes long before they can be executed.
Set in a brutal, totalitarian future world, director Asif Kapadia draws on science fiction as a lens through which "to examine the huge questions we are facing as a species" in the hope that society may find solutions before extinction. Inspired by Chris Marker’s 1962 film LA JETÉE, Kapadia's hybrid documentary drama delivers an unsettling commentary on the state of the world today… and tomorrow.

Leonardo, 19, leaves Palermo to start university in London. However, living with his sister and her roommate, the initial excitement soon wanes. Restless, he impulsively enrols at the University of Siena to study literature and falls in love with the city. There, he finds his literature professor unbearable, so he quits and decides to dive into Italian classics on his own. This reflective solitude sparks an inner journey of self-discovery, intensified by encounters with other young people. A year later, Leonardo travels to Torino, where he meets a man who may free him from his obsessions.
