Synopsis

Two artists in Walthamstow set out to take their street off the grid, kickstarting a solar-powered energy revolution. Inspired by lockdown mutual aid initiatives, artist-activists Hilary Powell and Dan Edelstyn decided to turn their street into an energy-generating powerhouse – a prototype for a new way of living, with the hope of galvanising a wider push towards sustainable alternatives. Directed by the duo, POWER STATION charts their turbulent journey, from pitching the idea to their neighbours and sleeping on the roof of their home to raising finance and launching a bid for a Christmas number one single. By turns funny and heartwarming, Powell and Edelstyn’s film is a vibrant portrait of their local neighbourhood, and a charming testament to the power of art in changing minds about what could be possible. Synopsis

A poetic memoir and political report, shot in Berlin and Leipzig, and in landscapes around the British Isles. The film’s narrative builds out from the events of the Reichstag Fire in Berlin in 1933 in which the pioneering German-Jewish sound recordist, Ludwig Koch, on whom the film ultimately centres, plays a minor role, placing him and his family in danger. The film is structured in two parts, juxtaposing Koch’s persecution in Nazi Germany with his experiences as a refugee recording bird song and other sounds in Britain. The film’s images of contemporary urban and rural terrains, and of objects and documents, create a collision between past and present. Shifts in time are further emphasised through the use of Koch’s original sound recordings from Germany and Britain which feature throughout the film. Synopsis

This feature-length documentary exposes the catastrophe of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and how it jeopardises global health, food, environmental and economic security and sustainability. The World Health Organisation (WHO) views AMR —essentially the creation and spread of drug-resistant superbugs—as one of the top 10 threats to humanity. The film delves into the causes of AMR and highlights its existing and potential impact and what measures need to be taken to avert a new global pandemic. Post-Covid, this is another wake-up call for the world and for those in power to change the course of history and act before it is too late

Synopsis

MOVING SOUND is a speculative work set across 1980s and near-future Wales, shot on super 16mm. In the film, sounds of present day anti-colonial and anti-capitalist strategies for mining strikes are transmitted from Soundcamp streamboxes to the past via an underground, time travelling broadcast. In the 1980s, workers build DIY receivers from Moving Sound portable audio devices, which they use to distribute the broadcast around sites of production and the everyday. First screened in the King Coal Experience (an immersive recreation of the Big Pit underground mine) amidst disused mining machinery, MOVING SOUND blurs fictional 16mm and archival 8mm footage of sonic action to explore how organising converges and enacts across geographies, temporality, fantasy and reality.

Synopsis

"Why does this keep happening to us?" Doctor Wokozi asks the same question each time she meets Professor Seva. She has done it seven times already and this is her last chance. Despite the experimental success of Time-travel in 2060, developed with the help of Quantex Ai, humans cannot withstand more than eight jumps and Spacetime entanglement is unstable. Each trip that she takes is fraught with danger and uncertainty. Equipped with a special pair of goggles, Doctor Wokozi has located Professor Seva's space-time coordinates in 2030. He lives alone with his plants, in an abandoned building - a decommissioned London hydroponic station. Each of her previous visits has been unsuccessful in convincing the reclusive genius to give up life in his current timeline and join her to save the world. She is now becoming desperate to finally transfer his consciousness into a storage device, so that she may bring him back to 2060, where his expertise on plants behaviour could help restore the biosphere and rescue humanity from extinction. THAT TIME IS NOW invites us to reflect on what makes us human, when facing the perils of an ecological collapse, through the themes of consciousness, steadfastness, and selflessness.

Synopsis

Exploring the reports of a spectral mansion on the outskirts of Rougham, a village in the Eastern county of Suffolk. The film delves into local folklore surrounding these sightings as villagers recount their haunting experiences against the desolate backdrop of rural Britain. It reflects on themes of memory, place, and the fading tradition of oral storytelling, evoking the eerie atmosphere of a fractured England and our growing disconnect from the natural environment.

Synopsis

An interactive stationary VR experience that invites quiet reflection on nature, slowness, and change. It offers a moment to sit, observe, and influence the atmosphere in a peaceful, dreamlike virtual world. The experience places the audience on a hilltop, looking across at a lone tree gently swaying in the breeze on another hill. The audience can move their hands gently to influence the wind. The seasons cycle over the course of ten minutes, the visual and audio aesthetics shifting with the changes. The piece emerged from thinking about how nature changes quietly around us, often unnoticed. We invite the audience to consider how small gestures and moments connect us to the world’s larger cycles, and how ephemeral and fragile those cycles are.

Synopsis

A chorale documentary which celebrates our relationships with nature, inspired by the best-selling illustrated book by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris. A scientific film with an artistic heart, it actively invites us to explore and reshape our anthropocentric point of view through an odyssey around the UK where we meet artists, scientists, children, the elderly and all different people in between. Their words and philosophy drift organically through the four seasons which each have their own colour, sound and feel. By reminding us that we too are part of nature, they bring us to see what we are losing and how to reconnect with it. By observing one landscape closely, the characters explore vast and global questions about our Planet. Official Selection CPH:DOX 2025 - World premiere Official Selection Sheffield DocFest 2025
