Synopsis

Spoon Benders is a child led documentary into the strange world of paranormal metal bending. The film looks at two different generations of 'child benders', and with contributions from established scientists, probes beneath the surface of society's preconceptions about children. This juxtaposing of the world of the scientist and the world of the child gives the film both its internal dynamic and its sense of poignancy.

When Vincent Van Gogh committed suicide in despair in 1890, he was considered a failure - only one of his nine hundred paintings had been sold during his lifetime. Within the last decade, four of his paintings were sold for between $33 and $79 million dollars. Starry Night, a modern fable, begins in 1885, as Vincent is painting his masterpiece, 'The Potato Eaters,' in Holland. A peasant woman, while posing for him, offers him a potion with the power to call him back after his death for 100 days to set right the pain he suffered in his former life. This romantic fantasy film explores what Vincent would do if he were given 100 days to come back to life in today's world. A century is a long time to wait for your dreams to come true, but for Vincent, with the help of a cunning lawyer and the love of an understanding woman, he has a second chance.

Romantic drama Summer Rain is "100% pure Brighton", in the words of co-producer Stephen Salter. Director Jonathan Glendening was keen to make a feature in and about his home town, which the film-makers describe as "Britain's sexy and funky coastal capital".



The film certainly makes the most of local talent and resources. Two of the lead actors are from Brighton, the soundtrack exploits the cream of the town's music scene, and importantly, says Salter, the funding was put together by local tax specialists who



brought in local businesses as investors.



Glendening, who has made several award-winning shorts and worked on The Madness Of King George and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, wanted his debut feature to be dramatic. "You don't get very many films like that aimed at a young audience," says Salter, who first worked with Glendening on his short The Perfect Murder, which has been incorporated into a horror anthology feature, Virtual Terror.



Glendening and co-writer Chris Rieley drew on their own experiences of Brighton life for the script, which focuses on the tangled love lives and ambitions of three Brighton girls, Michelle, Vicky and Becky. All are on the verge of their twenties and starting to decide where their lives are leading.



Production designer Atlanta Cook and DoP Peter Wignall, who was camera operator on Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels, worked together to give the film a vibrant, colourful look that captures the energy of the town.
