Synopsis

Nineteen-year old Londoner Leon returns home to take care of his alcoholic mother and adjust to life as an adult after an adolescence spent in and out of foster care. Frustrated by his lack of an education and his bleak financial prospects, Leon finds solace in the boxing ring. He soon meets the rebellious and beautiful Twiggy, who is squatting in abandoned houses to escape her family’s unfeeling affluence. As rumblings of riots begin in the streets and police and protesters engulf his neighborhood, Leon must decide whether to join his friends and fight or seek a new life with Twiggy.
A raw and unflinching look at one young man’s struggle to better himself, when the world appears to be dead-set against him. Set against the turbulent backdrop of one of London’s most violent periods of social unrest, a story full of fire, rage, and vulnerability.

Indie kid Rich lives in a remote cottage in Wales with his mum, Nesta, who is a novelist. He plays a guitar, but mostly to the sheep outside the house and the majestic, barren hills opposite.
Nesta is a heavy smoker and has just been brought back from the hospital, suffering, probably, from a lung cancer. Rich is looking after her and helping out with the shopping and house work, but wants her to make a change. They have a heated argument, but she refuses to accept the fact that cigarettes could be the cause for her decease, even though she gets slimmer and noticeably weaker.
She spends her days in bed, having lost her writing inspiration. She is visited by the local mobile GP, fitness maniac Dr Mickiewicz, who runs through forests and fields to reach his patients. He prescribes her movement and to Nesta's astonishment, even a fitness program which she has to follow. Nesta finds the very idea of her getting fit and taking up running ridiculous...

Essex boy Jim is so beautiful you’d think a Greek sculpture had just come to life. But, with no future in the cultural desert that is his small town and the prospect of fame, fortune and cultural stimulation beckoning in Soho, like many before him, Jim journeys to London.
On his first night, Jim is robbed and left penniless. He spends the night in an intricately made DIY cardboard box home with a homeless kid who suggests he join ‘The Raconteurs’ – a coterie of male escorts whose unique selling point is their encyclopedic knowledge of the arts.
What follows is Jim’s comic descent from unsuccessful escort, to artist’s muse and art authenticator – a journey complicated by a rare psychosomatic condition called ‘Stendhal Syndrome’ which renders him painfully oversensitive to art. Jim’s encounters with paintings by artists such as Caravaggio cause fainting and hallucinations. But while this condition threatens to bring about his downfall it might also open up new opportunities if Jim is willing to grab them.

Synopsis

In this adaptation of Shakespeare’s tragedy, both the staging and the interpretation of this classic play are radically reinvigorated for a contemporary audience. In a godless world of moral relativism, we follow Macbeth’s inner journey from his position as an assured warrior hero, to his nadir as a bereft, lonely, insecure and guilt-ridden king. Driven by his ambition, which he attempts to justify by a desperate appeal to supernatural signs and influences, Macbeth finally recognises his personal culpability, casts aside his self-excusing acts of self-deception, and dies bravely and defiantly, bleakly aware of the fragility of his own humanity.

Shakespeare's genius encompasses a deft and fluid ability to weave complex poetic threads that bind together the outer material story, and the inner psychological narrative.

We have created sequences of cinematic poetry to work in sympathetic engagement with the actual poetry at such moments – not just summoning the Shakespearean imagery in newly visualised form but allowing the stream of Shakespearean imagery to suggest other directions of travel for the film’s account of Macbeth’s inner world. Our film language is as dexterous, fluid and imaginative as the spoken language is at such moments.

The documentary follows Chilly Gonzales from his native Canada to late '90s underground Berlin, and via Paris to the world's great philharmonic halls. Diving deep into the dichotomy of Gonzales' stage persona, where self-doubt and megalomania are just two sides of the same coin. The playfulness of his character is mirrored in the look of the film. Using Gonzales' extensive video archive in a rather unorthodox manner... Reality and fiction blur together as we embark on a trip through Chilly Gonzales' world.
