Synopsis

Shot in Uganda. A short essay film commissioned initially for Documenta XI. It is a film that reflects on Bhimji's childhood home, Uganda, from which she was abruptly expelled during the Idi Amin regime. The film resonates with memory and personal history, illuminating the broader perspective of difference and aspects of Uganda's past and present. The film goes beyond Uganda to express broader questions of universal context.   'The work is not a personal indulgence; it is about making sense through the medium of aesthetics. It is a question that is close to my heart since the significant issues have resonance for me. I want to register these issues, to mark what has happened: elimination, extermination and erasure.'
