Synopsis

A lyrical portrait of indigenous habitats and species, as well as human interactions with the sea, in and around a coastal town in northwest Scotland. Shot on 35mm, capturing the ebb and flow of daily life in a small Scottish coastal town. Opening with a lyrical portrait of human activity, the film then shifts gear, travelling underwater to capture an aquatic world living side-by-side with the town, in a style reminiscent of Jean Painlevé’s nature films. A poetic study of the life and work of artist Margaret Benyon, pioneer in the artistic use of holography. Giving voice to the unsung legacy of a pioneering woman artist, 'A Blemished Code' is an impassioned meditation on the representation of female artists, the balancing of creative and domestic life, and the inherent tensions of being a woman working with new technology. The inner life of the subject is represented throughout by a brilliant musical score featuring sung script and compositions by Stevie Jones, Mai Mai, and Leigh Ferguson. Synopsis

Atom Spirit explores the increased interconnectedness of advanced technology and nature within the age of the Anthropocene. The film is set in Trinidad and Tobago, in a location that serves as a nexus point where desire, ecology and queerness intersect. Atom Spirit is a film that reconceptualises our relationships with the environment, non-human animals and each other. Shedding scientific taxonomies and building queer ecologies in their stead, the film considers the possibility and necessity for new means of being in the world.

An intimate and vivid account of a young girl’s real and fantastical adventure in a remote forest one evening. Glasgow-based artist-filmmaker Margaret Salmon's debut feature is not only a loving homage to classic children’s films such as Ray Ashley’s 'Little Fugitive', Jean Renoir’s 'The River' and Albert Lamorisse’s 'The Red Balloon', but draws from nature studies of the past, such as Mary Field’s 'Secrets of Nature' series. Shot on 35mm in various locations around Scotland, Salmon draws inspiration from a range of cinematic movements as well as wildlife documentaries to produce a lyrical and sensual portrait of a child’s eye perspective on the natural world. Synopsis

Gonda starts with the play Ideal by Ayn Rand. As a critical counter, Gonda addresses cinematic and linguistic space by creating settings in which image, text and sound shift roles to affect presupposed ideals of identity and existence. Main actor is Dutch transgender model Valentijn de Hingh.
