Synopsis

Five lives, one city, the fate of a nation at war. A civil servant, a tea lady, a motorbike medic and two street boys, five stories weave together in search of freedom through dreams, revolution, and civil war from the metropolis of Khartoum Sudan to escape in East Africa. In 2022 four Sudanese filmmakers, in collaboration with a British director/writer, began documenting the lives and dreams of five citizens in Khartoum. After a military coup brought down the civilian government, a war broke out between the army and the RSF militia that displaced over ten million people. Filmmakers and subjects escaped to East Africa and determined to continue the film another way. This film is a lyrical and cinematic window for global audiences to emotionally connect into the lives and dreams of the everyday people of Khartoum at a pivotal moment in African history. Synopsis

Chronicling the inspiring and offbeat recovery of Joanna Callaghan, a two-time hereditary cancer survivor, who takes a radically creative approach to healing after breast cancer treatment. Following a double mastectomy, Joanna reclaims her body in the most unexpected ways - building a giant inflatable breast, devising song-and-dance routines inspired by post-surgery exercises, and throwing a party to celebrate breasts. Her journey is not just one of physical healing but also a powerful exploration of body acceptance and resilience. Through a blend of self-shot footage, animation, and archival clips, the film brings humour and heart to the sensitive topic of breast cancer recovery. Joanna’s imaginative outlook shines through as she revisits her treatment, reconnects with family, and meets other survivors to share stories. Along the way, she faces the emotional toll of illness, navigates her own transformation, and demonstrates the power of creativity as a tool for survival. This raw yet uplifting documentary delivers a message of hope and joy, shedding light on the deeply personal and universal experiences of those affected by breast cancer. Its inventive approach and fresh perspective on survivorship inspires viewers to find humour, hope, and healing even in the most difficult circumstances.
